Scottie Rose Growney
Biography
Personal: Growney majored in exercise and sport science and communications with a concentration in entrepreneurship at North Carolina. Currently, she works as a reinsurance broker for HowdenTiger in New York City. Growney is the daughter of Scott and McCall Growney. Her brother, Colton, played lacrosse at Williams College, and her other brother, Chase, played lacrosse at Trinity College. Her father, Scott, played lacrosse at Trinity College from 1978-1981 and holds the school's single-season and career points records. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League in 1987. Her cousin, Reilly Masterson, played for the Penn State women's lacrosse team from 2016-2019, and her cousin, Dox Aitken, was a two-time NCAA champion lacrosse player at Virginia from 2017-2021. Her uncle, Steve Growney, was an All-America lacrosse player at Franklin & Marshall, and her aunt, Doss Growney Masterson, played lacrosse at Lafayette. Her aunt, Patrice Aitken, played lacrosse at Penn State, and her uncles, Mark Aitken and Bob Aitken, played lacrosse at Lafayette and William & Mary, respectively. Her cousins Chris Aitken and Steve Aitken played lacrosse at Villanova and Penn State, respectively. In her free time, Scottie enjoys cooking, listening to music from the 1980s, watching thriller movies/series, and spending time with her dog, Stevie Nicks. If she wasn't a lacrosse player, she would love to go to culinary school and become a chef.
2022 Season: In her rookie season, Growney started 10 out of 12 games and accumulated 665 leaderboard points. Her highest-scoring game was against Team Glynn, where she scored 192 leaderboard points. She finished the season Growney 18 goals, placing her seventh in the league, and 25 points, placing her eighth in the circuit. Scottie achieved three hat tricks throughout the season, including a season-high of five goals in the season finale against Team Glynn. She also scored three goals each in games against Team Apuzzo and Team Colson. On July 23, she scored her first two-point goal of her professional career against Team Glynn.
At North Carolina: Growney played for five years and started in 53 out of 91 games from 2018-2022. She started in all 50 games during her final three seasons with the Tar Heels. She finished her college career as the ninth-leading scorer in program history with 151 goals. Growney also contributed 48 assists, 81 draw controls, and 48 ground balls. She led the Tar Heels to a perfect 22-0 record and the 2022 NCAA Championship. In that championship game against Boston College, Growney scored the eventual game-winning goal. Throughout her college career, she had 18 multi-goal games, including 10 games with three or more goals. In the 2021 season, Growney was the third-leading scorer for the Tar Heels with 65 points, scoring 46 goals and providing 19 assists. She received Honorable Mention All-America status from Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine and was named IWLCA Second-Team All-Region as a senior. In 2020, she was a First-Team Inside Lacrosse All-America selection, scoring 22 goals and assisting in five during the COVID-shortened season. In her sophomore season, she played as a reserve and scored 21 goals with four assists. As a freshman, she scored six goals in 21 games.
