Ray Santos
Biography
Personal: Santos is passionate about travel, reading, and spending quality time with her dogs, Mia and Chloe. She also enjoys cooking. Her husband, Jessie Colon, is a professional volleyball player and a member of the Puerto Rican National Team. Santos credits her sports life coach, Carlette Patterson, as a person who has made a significant difference in her life. If she were not playing volleyball, she envisions herself as a Broadway dancer. In addition to her athletic abilities, she is fluent in Spanish.
2022 Season: Santos was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball Sportsmanship Award. Over the course of the season, she took part in 10 matches and played in 21 sets, accumulating a total of 1,619 leaderboard points. Her performance positioned her sixth in the league, with 107 assists to her name. Notably, she displayed her prowess in Week Five by contributing 80 assists. Additionally, she showcased her versatility with 50 digs and six blocks. Santos wrapped up the season with three consecutive double-doubles. Her standout performance was in the season finale against Team De La Cruz on April 16, where she achieved season-highs of 35 assists and 13 digs. Her first double-double of the Athletes Unlimited career came against Team Valentin-Anderson on April 14, boasting 28 assists, 11 digs, and a season-best three blocks. Further showcasing her skills, she secured 17 assists and 10 digs against Team Lichtman on April 15. Notably, she recorded her highest leaderboard points in a match against Team Drews on April 8 with a total of 227 points. Another remarkable display was seen in the Week Four finale against Team Valentin-Anderson, where she garnered 212 points.
Other Professional Experience: Santos boasts an impressive professional career, having played in Italy, Puerto Rico, Spain, Kazakhstan, France, and Greece. Her accolades include being honored as the Setter of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the LVSF in 2022, as well as being named MVP of the Kazakhstan League in the 2016-17 season. Most recently, she played for Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia in Italy A1 during the 2022-23 season.
International Experience: Santos has represented Puerto Rico on the international stage. Although retired from the Puerto Rico National Team, she has a rich history of competition, including appearances in two World Championships, NORCECA Tournament, Grand Prix, Centro American Games, and Pan American Games.
At Arkansas: Santos was a four-year letter winner. She showcased her skills in 121 matches between 2010 and 2013. Notably, she stands third in the school's history with an impressive 3,661 career assists. Her contribution extended to defensive play, ranking her fifth on the Razorbacks' career rally scoring records list with 933 digs. Throughout her collegiate career, she achieved 37 career double-doubles, earning her a place as the seventh-highest in school history. In her senior year in 2013, she gained recognition with an Honorable Mention AVCA All-America distinction, along with AVCA All-Region honors. Her sophomore year was particularly notable, achieving a .376 hitting percentage that ranks fifth on Razorbacks' single-season list. Additionally, she led the Razorbacks in assists during her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She holds the tenth spot on the single-season list with 1,212 assists during her junior season. Santos is one of the five players in school history to achieve a triple-double, a feat she accomplished with 13 kills, 26 assists, and 11 digs against Tulsa on September 13, 2013. A career-high of 61 assists was achieved by her during a match against Kentucky on November 20, 2011.
