Lizzie Colson
Biography
Personal: Colson’s mother, Laura, played volleyball and lacrosse at McDaniel. Her sports hero is Mia Hamm. Colson’s favorite pregame meal is trail mix and chocolate milk. She majored in psychology at Maryland.
2022 Season: Colson was a member of the inaugural All-Defensive Team and started all 12 games for Athletes Unlimited. She finished eighth in the league with 1,348 leaderboard points and ranked third with 1,045 win points. Colson scored 100 or more points in a game eight times, including the first six games of the season. She also had 22 caused turnovers, ranking second in the league, and collected 19 ground balls, ranking tenth. Colson’s highest scoring game was on August 13 against Team Glynn, where she earned 169 leaderboard points with three ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In the Week Two finale against Team Arsenault, she scored a goal and added an assist, earning 151 leaderboard points.
2021 Season: Colson was selected in the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse College Draft along with 12 other players.
International Experience: Colson has also represented Team USA at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship. Colson appeared in six games and was part of the Team USA defense that allowed the fewest goals in the tournament. She scored two goals in the Championship Bracket opener against Hong Kong, China on July 5. Colson had previously suffered a knee injury during a summer training camp with the United States team in 2019 but returned for tryouts last summer.
At Maryland: Colson played for five years and started in 63 out of 82 games. She sat out the 2020 season due to an injury. Colson scored two goals, had four assists, and caused 106 turnovers. She also collected 159 ground balls and 324 draw controls. In 2021, Colson was honored as the IWLCA National Defender of the Year for leading the nation with 49 caused turnovers. She was also recognized as the Big Ten Conference Defender of the Year in her final season with Maryland. Colson received three IWLCA All-America and All-Big Ten selections and three Inside Lacrosse All-America commendations. She was a finalist for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award and served as a team captain during her last two years at Maryland.
