Abby Bosco
Biography
Personal: Bosco is the daughter of Traci Bosco-Myhal and the late Richard Bosco. Her mother is remarried to Thomas Myhal, and her father, Richard, played basketball at SUNY-Geneseo. Bosco has a younger sister, Jenna Myhal, who plays lacrosse at the University of Tampa, and an older brother named Rich. She coaches travel lacrosse and attributes Maryland women’s lacrosse coaches Cathy Reese, Lauri Kenis, and Caitlyn Phipps as individuals who have made a difference in her life. If she wasn't playing lacrosse, Bosco would have pursued a career as an Olympic gymnast. During high school, she participated in soccer, basketball, and band, alongside her involvement in lacrosse, and she enjoys activities such as yoga and pickleball.
2023 Season: Bosco, a talented rookie defender, secured fourth place in the final league standings with 1,301 leaderboard points. She made history by becoming the first defender in the league to claim medalist honors and was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, she was one of four players named to the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse All-Defensive Team. Bosco also ranked fourth in the league with 336 stat points and earned 875 win points, putting her in fifth place in the circuit. Her outstanding performance led to her being recognized as the Game MVP four times. Notably, she joined Taylor Moreno, Kayla Wood, and Angie Benson as one of the only rookies in league history to serve as a captain. Bosco guided Week Three and Week Four teams to a combined 2-4 record and excelled in individual statistics, ranking second in the league with 41 draw controls, fourth in the circuit with 24 ground balls, and third in the category with 19 caused turnovers. She earned her first career Game MVP award against Team Moreno on July 23 after collecting three ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Similarly, she opened Week Two with an MVP 2 performance against Team Colson, achieving a season-high of seven draw controls in addition to two ground balls. Bosco finished Week Three with four ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers against Team Glynn to claim MVP 2 recognition and closed the season with MVP 3 accolades against Team Glynn after registering two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. She achieved 100 or more leaderboard points in seven games, including a season-high of 184 points against Team Moreno on July 23, showcasing her exceptional talent. Bosco was also one of 11 players selected in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse College Draft.
At Maryland: Bosco started all 43 games for the Terrapins. She scored two goals and provided one assist while collecting 106 ground balls and causing 73 turnovers. She also ranked seventh on Maryland's career draw controls list with 187 over two seasons. Bosco was nominated twice for the Tewaaraton Award and received two First-Team IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region commendations. In the 2023 campaign, she was selected as a Second-Team All-American by IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse. In 2022, she earned First-Team IWLCA All-America notice. Bosco was also named to the USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Team twice, receiving First-Team honors in 2022. She was named the 2022 Big Ten Conference Defender of the Year and received First-Team All-Big Ten distinction in both years at Maryland. During her graduate season, she recorded a team-high 43 ground balls and ranked second on the team with 98 draw controls. In 2022, she ranked second in NCAA Division I with 63 ground balls, which is the eighth-best in Maryland's history. She also led the team with 26 caused turnovers and finished second with 89 draw controls.
At Penn: Bosco was a four-year letter winner at Penn. She started 42 out of 43 contests for the Quakers from 2018-2021. During her time at Penn, she scored 18 goals, provided two assists, collected 90 ground balls, and recorded 81 draw controls. As a sophomore, she received Second-Team All-Ivy League recognition after leading the conference with 54 ground balls. She also earned Academic All-Ivy accolades during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. In 2018, Bosco led the Quakers to the Ivy League regular season title.
