Hawkins is a mother to her son, Emanuel. She majored in criminology and criminal justice at Maryland.
Hawkins was drafted sixth overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. She helped the Washington Mystics to a WNBA Championship in 2019 and signed a two-year contract with the Atlanta Dream in February 2021. Hawkins has also played in Korea, China and Hungary.
