Justine Wong-Orantes
Biography
Personal: Justine Wong-Orantes is the daughter of Robbie Orantes and Winnie Wong. She is married to her husband, Andrews. Justine Wong-Orantes is the youngest known player to earn a AAA CBVA rating after winning a AAA beach tournament at the age of 12. She was on the cover of Volleyball Magazine after winning a beach tournament. Justine Wong-Orantes earned a bachelor’s degree in child, youth and family studies from Nebraska in 2016. She notes club coaches JP Calderon, Sabrina Hernandez, and Tracy Allen as people who have made a difference in her life. Justine Wong-Orantes models her game after Misty May-Treanor. She lists Kobe Bryant as one of her idols. Justine Wong-Orantes felt starstruck after meeting Simone Biles at the Paris Olympic Games. She also played soccer growing up. Justine Wong-Orantes lists earning the first Olympic gold medal in USA women’s volleyball history as her proudest accomplishment. She played as a setter until her final year of high school before becoming a libero at Nebraska.
Other Professional Experience: Justine Wong-Orantes began her professional career with SSC Palmberg Schwerin in Germany in 2019. She joined VC Wiesbaden in 2020. Justine Wong-Orantes competed with Beziers Volley in the French League during the 2022-23 campaign. She returned to Germany with SC Potsdam in 2023-24. Justine Wong-Orantes was a member of the Omaha roster for the inaugural 2025 League One Volleyball season. She ranked among league leaders with 200 digs and added 53 assists.
International Experience: Justine Wong-Orantes has been a member of the United States National Team since 2016. She was named Best Libero at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after leading Team USA to a Gold medal. Justine Wong-Orantes guided Team USA to a Silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She helped Team USA claim a Silver medal at the 2019 World Cup. Justine Wong-Orantes piloted Team USA to three Pan American Cup Gold medals from 2017-19, along with a Bronze medal in 2016. She secured a Bronze medal at the 2017 World Grand Champions Cup in Japan. Justine Wong-Orantes won a Gold medal at the FIVB Nations League in 2018 and 2021. She also represented the United States on the Beach Youth National Team.
At Nebraska: Justine Wong-Orantes appeared in 468 sets across 132 matches at Nebraska from 2013-16. She finished her career with a school-record 1,890 digs and 395 assists while leading the Huskers to the 2015 NCAA Division I title. Justine Wong-Orantes was a two-time AVCA All-America and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year selection. She also garnered PrepVolleyball All-America recognition. Justine Wong-Orantes was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team. She was a two-time AVCA All-North Region First Team pick. Justine Wong-Orantes was an AVCA First-Team All-America performer who registered 482 digs as a senior in 2016 while playing 114 sets across 33 matches. She added 94 assists and 19 service aces. Justine Wong-Orantes was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being named to the All-Big Ten and AVCA All-North Region First Team. She earned Nebraska Female Athlete of the Year plaudits. Justine Wong-Orantes was named Best Libero at the Nebraska Invitational and Ameritas Players Challenge. She led the team with 4.23 digs per set. Justine Wong-Orantes established a new single-match school record with 35 digs against Minnesota. She finished with double-digit digs in 25 matches, including seven contests with 20 or more digs. Justine Wong-Orantes earned AVCA Third Team All-America citation after averaging 4.55 digs per set in 2015. She was named 2015 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in addition to claiming Honorable Mention status on the All-Big Ten squad. Justine Wong-Orantes was a PrepVolleyball First Team All-America and AVCA All-North Region selection who earned espnW National Player of the Week accolades after tallying a season-high 30 digs against Penn State. She became the fastest Husker to surpass 1,000 career digs against Iowa State in her 75th career match. Justine Wong-Orantes was named Best Libero at the Nebraska Invitational and Ameritas Players Challenge. She totaled 555 digs as a junior, the third-highest single-season total in program history. Justine Wong-Orantes racked up 17 digs in the NCAA Championship victory against Texas. She appeared in all 33 matches as a sophomore in 2014. Justine Wong-Orantes became the first Husker in team history to lead the team in digs as a freshman and sophomore after compiling 464 digs. She averaged 3.85 digs per set. Justine Wong-Orantes was named to the Ameritas Players Challenge All-Tournament Team. She toured Europe following the 2014 season as part of the first Big Ten Foreign Team Tour. Justine Wong-Orantes saw action in 32 matches as a true freshman in 2013. She finished with 399 digs and averaged 3.50 digs per set as a rookie. Justine Wong-Orantes ranked ninth in the Big Ten in digs. She registered 10 or more digs in 21 matches, including a season-high 24 digs against Minnesota. She added 10 service aces. Justine Wong-Orantes was also part of the Nebraska beach volleyball team in 2014-15.
