Laeticia Amihere

Personal: Amihere is the daughter of Georgette and Anthony Amihere and has two siblings. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sport and entertainment management from South Carolina in May 2022. Amihere made history by being the first Canadian female basketball player to dunk in a game at the age of 15. She was also the first player of Ghanaian descent drafted into the WNBA and was Canada’s highest WNBA Draft pick since Kayla Alexander in 2013.

Other Professional Experience: Amihere was selected by the Atlanta Dream with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. During her rookie season, she appeared in 20 games as a reserve, averaging 2.8 points and 1.0 rebounds per contest. Her season-high performance came against Los Angeles on July 2, 2023, when she scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also tallied eight points against New York on June 9, 2023.

International Experience: Amihere played a significant role in Team Canada's junior national team, securing a Gold medal at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship in Mexico. Additionally, she guided Team Canada to a Bronze medal at the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Italy. Her international experience extends to competing for Team Canada at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Amihere was also part of Team Canada at the 2021 FIBA AmeriCup.

College Experience: Amihere, a five-year letter winner at South Carolina from 2018-23, appeared in 127 games for the Gamecocks, with four starts. She sat out the 2018-19 season as a redshirt. Throughout her college career, she accumulated 796 points and 517 rebounds while shooting 43.6 percent from the field. She earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades from the WBCA as a freshman. Amihere contributed significantly to the Gamecocks' success, being part of three Southeastern Conference regular-season titles and three consecutive SEC Tournament crowns. She played in three NCAA Final Fours and helped South Carolina win the 2022 NCAA championship. Amihere was part of the historic team that held the No. 1 ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls for the entire 2021-22 season. She posted three career double-doubles and scored in double figures in 28 games. Additionally, Amihere became the first player in South Carolina women’s basketball history to compete in the Olympic Games during her college career. Her senior season saw her contribute to South Carolina's record-breaking 36 wins, including seven victories against ranked opponents. Amihere's performances were notable, including a season-high 17 points in the SEC Tournament semifinal game against Ole Miss on March 4, 2023.
