Biography
Personal: Sophie Fischer is the daughter of Stacey and Tom Fischer. Her mother played basketball at Akron, and her father played football at Miami (Ohio). Sophie Fischer earned a sociology degree from Georgia in 2024 and has four siblings. She rescued a cat named Nina. Sophie Fischer lists her high school volleyball coach, Carrie Christian, as a mentor and also cites college coach Tom Black as someone who has made a difference in her life. Sophie Fischer models her game after Kim Hill. She was also part of soccer, dance, tennis, and swim teams growing up. Sophie Fischer's proudest accomplishment is earning SEC Player of the Year status in 2023.
Other Professional Experience: Sophie Fischer was a member of LOVB Salt Lake for the inaugural 2025 League One Volleyball season, where she registered 18 kills with 10 total blocks and four digs.
International Experience: Sophie Fischer guided Team USA to a Silver medal at the 2024 NORCECA Pan American Cup Final Six, totaling nine points in the Gold medal match. Sophie Fischer was also named to the 2023 USA Volleyball Women’s Collegiate National Team.
At Georgia and Kentucky: Sophie Fischer appeared in 88 matches and 341 sets at Georgia from 2022-24 after playing at Kentucky from 2020-21. She earned All-Region distinction in addition to Third-Team All-SEC notice. Sophie Fischer surpassed five total blocks in 16 matches, including a season-high 10 block assists against Fresno State. She broke Georgia’s career block assist record with seven rejections against Tennessee. Sophie Fischer dropped in a season-high seven service aces to go with 15 kills against Washington. She reached 10 or more kills in 19 matches, including 20 or more kills twice. Sophie Fischer saw action in 113 sets across 31 matches in 2023, setting a career high with 467 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. She totaled 149 blocks, including 15 solo rejections. Sophie Fischer compiled 70 digs and a career-high 45 service aces. She was named to the AVCA and Volleyball Magazine All-America Second Team and was a member of the AVCA All-Southeast Region and All-SEC teams. She played in 118 sets over 31 matches with 30 starts in 2022 while making her debut at Georgia. Sophie Fischer set a new rally scoring era program record with 183 total blocks, which also ranked second in the nation. She earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention status and claimed a spot on the AVCA All-Southeast Region team. Sophie Fischer earned All-SEC status and claimed four SEC Player of the Week awards. She posted double-digit kills in 18 matches, including three contests with 18 kills. Sophie Fischer garnered a new Georgia single-match record with 15 total blocks and added 10 kills for her only double-double of the season against South Carolina. She posted 19 kills with eight blocks in the NCAA Tournament. Sophie Fischer appeared in 10 matches during her final season at Kentucky in 2021, totaling nine kills. She helped the Wildcats to their first NCAA Division I title in program history.
