Aly Harrell
Biography
Personal: Harrell has three older siblings. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology and is currently pursuing a post baccalaureate certificate in the College of Science at Marshall. Harrell was named an assistant softball coach at Marshall on July 19, 2023, after volunteering as an assistant with the Thundering Herd during the 2023 season. Outside of softball, Harrell volunteered with local little league teams, including the Huntington Little League, and also spent time volunteering at VA hospitals and the Hoops Children's Hospital. She also volunteered at a local animal shelter and was involved with the Marshall Sweetheart Clinic. Harrell has two dogs named Maui and Koa. She credits her father and former Marshall head softball coach, Megan Smith Lyon, as people who have made a difference in her life. If she wasn't playing softball, Harrell would like to be an OB/GYN or a pediatrician. She grew up participating in soccer, basketball, softball, dance, and Girl Scouts. Harrell’s walk-up song is "The Way I Live" by Baby Boy Da Prince.
2022 Championship Season: Harrell finished her rookie campaign with 1,024 leaderboard points. She appeared in 10 games, starting in four of them. Throughout the season, she drew two walks and was hit by a pitch once. Harrell’s highest-scoring game was on August 21 against Team McCleney, where she earned 120 leaderboard points.
2022 AUX Season: Harrell made her professional debut and placed 23rd in the league standings with 848 leaderboard points. She started in seven out of twelve games and finished with a .217 batting average. Harrell recorded five hits, including two doubles, and scored six runs. Her first multi-hit game of her professional career came on June 25 in the season finale against Team Zerkle, where she went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
At Marshall: Harrell played for Marshall University for five years. She started in 215 out of 220 games from 2018 to 2022. Throughout her college career, she achieved a .390 batting average with 53 home runs and 220 runs batted in. Harrell also recorded 222 hits, including 47 doubles. She is one of only twelve players in the program's history to reach 200 or more career hits. Aly ranks third on Marshall's career home runs list. She was the first-ever Marshall student-athlete to win the Senior CLASS Award and was named a First-Team Senior CLASS Award All-American in 2022. Harrell was also a four-time NFCA All-Region selection and a four-time All-Conference USA First Team performer. She was named C-USA Rookie of the Year in 2018. Harrell finished her career at Marshall among the program's all-time leaders in various categories, including batting average, hits, runs scored, doubles, home runs, and runs batted in. She also holds the record for the most walks and the highest on-base percentage in Marshall's history. Harrell is one of only three players in Marshall history to reach base in 200 or more career games. She holds the single-season record for on-base percentage during the COVID-shortened 2020 season and is one of two players in Marshall history to drive in at least one run in 100 games. Harrell posted 59 career multi-hit games, including 19 as a fifth-year senior. She tied the program's single-season record by striking out just three times in 94 at-bats during the 2021 season and set a single-season school record with 68 walks during her sophomore year. During her freshman year, Harrell hit 11 home runs, setting the Marshall rookie record. She also set a new program mark by drawing a walk in eight consecutive games from March 24 to April 7, 2018.
