The top-performing athletes of the 2022 Lacrosse season are set to run it back and chase the hardware again in 2023.

Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse players Taylor Moreno, Sam Apuzzo, Ally Mastroianni, and Britt Read signed to compete in the upcoming season.

Goalie Moreno is the reigning champ, securing the title in her first year as a professional. She surpassed Apuzzo, the second-place medalist, in the final game of the season. Mastroianni earned third  and Read finished as the fourth-place medalist.

Here is a look back on the impact these athletes made in 2022.

Taylor Moreno – 2022 Champion

Moreno made last year a championship tour for her career, coming into the league off of an NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse title with the University of North Carolina. She wrapped up her career as a Tar Heel starting every game in goal to help the team to a perfect 22-0 record.

She brought that championship mentality into her rookie season with AU, establishing the single-season record for saves with 132 over 12 games. She also set a league standard with a .562 save percentage, recording 10 or more saves in 10 of her outings. She earned 1,798 leaderboard points in her pro debut with the league.

Sam Apuzzo – 2nd Place Medalist

Attacker Sam Apuzzo reigned as a captain all season long, joining volleyball standout Bethania De La Cruz as the only player in Athletes Unlimited history to serve as a captain every week of a season. Apuzzo led her teams to a 10-2 record in her four weeks as a captain and stands as the career leader in AU Lacrosse for wins in the role (10).

Apuzzo proved time and time again she was integral to her team’s success and it showed in her 270 MVP points, the top earner in the point category across both seasons.

She put up 41 points in 12 games and is the league’s career leader with 88 points over her 27 outings.

The Boston College alum also represented Team USA at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship. In the Gold Medal game against Canada, she contributed to her team’s victory with three goals and two assists.

Ally Mastroianni – 3rd Place Medalist

In her run to the top of the leaderboard, Ally Mastroianni spread her point earnings across the three categories to finish in 3rd place. She was fifth in the league with 394 stat points, shared seventh place with 105 MVP points, and logged 900 win points with her teams.

Her 2022 highs included three hat tricks and setting a season-high four goals in the final game against Team Glynn.

Mastroianni is another Team USA athlete and tallied four goals with three assists in her eight games at the World Championship. She ranked fifth among all players with 38 draw controls.

Britt Read – 4th Place Medalist

Goalie Britt Read rounded out the top performers on the leaderboard in 2022. Not only did she medal, but she also became the first player in Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse history to reach 200 career saves.

She was third overall in stat points with 564 total and tied for second in the circuit with 102 saves. She had a season-high outing with 13 stops against Team Apuzzo in Week One.

Read also competes on the international level for Team England. At the World Championships, she received the All-World Team distinction after leading England to the bronze medal with an overtime victory over Australia with an 8.74 goals against average and .441 save percentage at the tournament.
