Ray Santos at the helm of Columbus Fury offense, leads team to undefeated week in PVF
The Columbus Fury put together three straight wins in Week Five of the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), with an offense commanded by veteran setter Ray Santos.
The Fury started the week hosting the Omaha Supernovas in their home opener and the first-ever professional women’s volleyball match in Ohio. The night included a lot to celebrate for Columbus, including a 3-1 win (25-12, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23).
Santos facilitated the Fury offense, recording a season-high 47 assists and 21 digs, the most digs of any player on the squad. She spread the offense well, assisting four attackers to nine or more kills in the match.
The Fury suffered two losses on the road to start the year and Santos raved about finally being able to play in front of their home crowd.
“This started a long time ago, and we’ve been working for a long time,” Santos said. “To finally be able to play at home with our gym how it was, it was a dream come true.”
The team carried the momentum from the first victory on the road to Vegas where they swept the Thrill in three sets (26-24, 25-23, 25-20). Santos logged 32 assists in the match. The Fury turned around and hosted Vegas on Monday and secured another win 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23).
Santos logged her second double-double of the year with 38 assists and 16 digs.
