Onye Ofoegbu
Biography
Personal: Onye Ofoegbu majored in biology at UC Irvine. She lists Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer as a person who has made a difference in her life. Onye Ofoegbu participated in karate, dance, and swimming as a child. She enjoys painting, writing, creating content, traveling, and spending time with friends. Onye Ofoegbu lists getting her master’s degree as her proudest accomplishment.
Other Professional Experience: Onye Ofoegbu played for Atlanta during the inaugural League One Volleyball season in 2025, where she totaled five kills with one block.
At Oregon and UC-Irvine: Onye Ofoegbu was a two-year letter-winner at Oregon after spending her first four seasons at UC-Irvine from 2019-22. She finished her college career with 1,237 kills and a .366 hitting percentage. Onye Ofoegbu also added 38 service aces and 144 digs. She put down 59 solo blocks and 449 block assists across 438 sets in 120 career matches. Onye Ofoegbu was a two-time AVCA All-America selection who earned Third-Team accolades following her final campaign in 2024. She was named to the AVCA All-Pacific South Region Team in addition to earning a pair of Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors. Onye Ofoegbu played in 117 sets over 32 matches for Oregon in 2024. She led the team with 148 blocks while ranking third on the team with 290 kills. Onye Ofoegbu also contributed 26 digs. She finished with 10 or more kills in 11 matches, including a season-high 19 kills against Grand Canyon. Onye Ofoegbu surpassed five total blocks in 13 matches, including 11 rejections against USC. She redshirted during her first season at Oregon in 2023. Onye Ofoegbu ended her tenure at UC-Irvine with 380 kills in 112 sets over 30 matches in 2022. She garnered AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and AVCA All-Pacific South Region distinction while receiving All-Big West First Team honors. Onye Ofoegbu finished with 143 total blocks, including 15 solo stops, to rank third in the conference. She ranked second in the Big West with a .372 hitting percentage. Onye Ofoegbu was an All-Big West First Team performer in 2021 after playing in 114 sets over 30 matches. She ranked 15th in the nation with a .409 hitting percentage. Onye Ofoegbu tallied 362 kills while contributing 144 total blocks and 48 digs. She also added 13 service aces. Onye Ofoegbu ranked fifth with 123 block assists. She put down a season-high 10 blocks against UC San Diego, which was 10th most in program history. Onye Ofoegbu was named to the All-Big West Freshman Team in 2019 after appearing in 95 sets across 28 matches. She posted 205 kills with 73 total blocks and 14 digs.
