Génesis Collazo
Biography
Personal: Collazo has two dogs named Jordan and Kai and would work with kids as a psychologist if she weren't playing volleyball. As a child, she was involved in a wide range of sports including basketball, softball, jump rope, tennis, table tennis, and badminton, and also enjoyed playing chess. Her hobbies include going to the beach with her dogs, spending time with her family, cooking, and baking. She also works as a tour guide in the El Yunque Rainforest. Collazo wears No. 77 because 7 is her favorite number.
2023 Season: In her first season with Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball, Collazo finished in ninth place on the leaderboard with 2,980 total points. She tied for the best match record in the league (12-3) with Lindsey Vander Weide. Collazo’s 1,960 win points established a new league single-season record. She played in 44 sets across 15 matches, accumulating 81 kills, 107 digs, and 21 solo blocks (ranking eighth in the league). She recorded her season-high of 12 kills in the season finale against Team Linnehan, along with nine digs, narrowly missing a double-double. Collazo also posted season-high 10 digs in three different matches and earned 296 leaderboard points in a match against Team Hilley on October 20. Over the season, she amassed 100 or more leaderboard points in 13 of 15 matches, including the last 11 consecutively, and surpassed 200 points eight times.
Other Professional Experience: Collazo has played professionally since 2009, competing for eight different teams. She began her career with Pinkin de Corozal in Puerto Rico (2009-13) and later spent five years with Criollas de Caguas (2013-17). She has also played for two teams in Turkey before returning to Puerto Rico for the 2022-23 season with Cangrejeras de Santurce. Over her career, Collazo has won five Gold medals and three Silver medals.
International Experience: Collazo has represented Puerto Rico on the national stage, playing alongside fellow Athletes Unlimited players Brittany Abercrombie, Natalia Valentin-Anderson, and Nomaris Vélez Agosto. She helped Puerto Rico secure a Silver medal at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. Collazo is also a two-time Bronze medalist at the FIVB Challenger Cup (2018, 2022), earned Bronze at the 2017 Pan American Cup and the 2022 NORCECA Pan American Cup Final Six, and was part of the Silver medal-winning team at the 2021 NORCECA Championship.
