Amanda Benson
Biography
Personal: Benson holds a degree in psychology from the University of Oregon. She has diverse interests, including cooking, writing poetry, and fashion. Notably, she has her own wardrobe styling business named ABStyledMe and a small business named SourcedbyAB, which focuses on vintage clothing. Additionally, Amanda has authored two books called "Roots" and "White Walls." She has been an active member of the Honor Choir in high school and has participated in various sports such as basketball, softball, gymnastics, and flag football during her childhood.
2023 Season: Benson participated in the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball Exhibition Tour.
2022 Season: Benson's exceptional performance earned her a spot as a finalist for the GEICO Defensive Player of the Year award. She exhibited her prowess by participating in all 46 sets throughout the inaugural Athletes Unlimited season. Accumulating an impressive 2,368 leaderboard points, she secured the second position in the league with 214 digs. Notably, she shared the lead with Morgan Hentz, boasting 14 instances of 10 or more digs. Her consistency was evident as she maintained a streak of 12 consecutive matches with 10 or more digs to conclude the season. Within this streak, she managed to achieve 15 or more digs seven times. In addition to her defensive skills, she also ranked 10th in the league with 33 assists, including 20 assists in the final eight matches. Her debut in Athletes Unlimited was marked by 19 digs and 229 leaderboard points against Team Cruz. This performance was mirrored in a match against Team Valentin-Anderson on March 25. Notably, her standout display came in a victory over Team Drews on March 23, where she collected 17 digs and a season-high 298 leaderboard points, earning her the first MVP 1 award of her career. Her consistent form continued with 17 digs against Team Sheilla on April 9 and another 17 digs against Team De La Cruz, contributing to a comeback victory, on April 2. The season concluded with a golden set loss to Team Lichtman, during which she secured 15 digs, marking her ninth match with 15 or more digs.
Other Professional Experience: Benson has played in various European countries including Germany, Switzerland, and France. Notably, she clinched the 2021 Swiss Championship with Viteos NUC.
International Experience: Benson has represented Team USA and was a member of the 2017 and 2018 Pan American Cup Gold medal squads. She also competed for Team USA at the 2017 and 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s National League.
At Oregon: Benson earned an Honorable Mention AVCA All-America recognition during her senior season. In 2016, she also received All-Region and All-Pac-12 honors. Her impact on the Oregon team was profound as she holds the second position in program history for career digs, amassing an impressive 2,146. Throughout her four years at Oregon, she consistently led the team in digs. Notably, she holds the distinction of being one of only six players in the school's history to achieve 30 or more digs in a single match. Her personal best of 32 digs was recorded against Washington on November 20, 2015.
