Team O'Donnell outlasts Team Douty 8-7
Taylor Cummings scored three goals and Cortney Fortunato added two goals in the third quarter as Team O’Donnell outlasted Team Douty to secure an 8-7 victory to close out the opening night of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse action at Maureen Hendricks Field at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Friday evening.

In a tightly-contested game which saw neither team lead by more than three goals, Team O’Donnell won despite being held scoreless for the final 8:07 of the contest. Team Douty trimmed the margin to 8-7 in the fourth quarter with goals from Sam Apuzzo and Izzy McMahon, but was unable to get the tying goal in the closing seconds. Katrina Dowd also tallied two goals for Team Douty on the evening.

Cummings, the first overall pick in Tuesday’s inaugural weekly draft, led all players with her hat trick performance to go with four ground balls and one caused turnover for 44 points. She was named MVP 3 for an additional 15 and 164 total. Fortunato chipped in two goals with an assist for 26, while goalkeeper Caylee Waters tallied eight saves and was named MVP 1 for 193 points overall.
Team Douty defender Ella Simkins was named MVP 2 for 30 points. She picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover, tallying 76 points total.
