Recap: Team Apuzzo Ends Week 2 Unbeaten after 14-10 Victory against Team Moreno
With the win, Team Apuzzo finishes Week Three with an unblemished 3-0 record, while Team Moreno drops its first game of the week and finishes the stretch at 2-1.
Attacker Sam Geiersbach set a new career high with five points on four goals, which is also an AU Pro Lacrosse best, and an assist to garner MVP 1 laurels and 186 leaderboard points. She registered a hat trick in the first quarter and then added her fourth score near the end of the first half.
Rookie attacker Madison Ahern recorded her first hat trick in the professional realm to help lead Team Apuzzo to victory, and earned MVP 2 accolades with 150 leaderboard points.
Goalkeeper Kady Glynn made 12 saves to bring her season total to 64 saves and gained MVP 3 plaudits and 134 leaderboard points.
Rookie attacker Izzy Scane also notched a hat trick for Team Apuzzo with an assist, a ground ball, and a draw control. The newcomer from Northwestern has 16 goals and has multiple goals in four of her first six Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse contests.
Attacker Sam Apuzzo scored a goal and added a pair of assists to go with seven draw controls in her team’s victory, as well.
For Team Moreno, attacker Charlotte North tallied four goals, including a two-point marker, to lead the team in scoring despite the defeat. In addition, rookie midfielder Ellie Masera and rookie attacker Maggi Hall each registered a pair of goals for Team Moreno.
Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno made nine saves, while Kat Buchanan entered at the end of the first half and only faced one shot.
KEY MOMENT
Team Apuzzo controlled a majority of the game offensively and held a 9-3 lead at halftime. Team Moreno trimmed the deficit down to just three goals at 10-7 with 4:05 left in the third quarter, but Team Apuzzo rallied and scored four consecutive goals to rebuild its lead that it never relinquished.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Apuzzo solidified her spot on the top of the leaderboard with 905 points towards the standings, while Moreno stayed in second in the standings with 809 points. Midfielder Ally Kennedy sits in third with 769 points, while North ranks fourth and only five points behind Kennedy in the fourth spot. The top 21 spots on the leaderboard are held by a member of Team Apuzzo or Team Moreno.

North’s four goals marked the 18th hat trick of her AU Pro Lacrosse career … She remains second on the all-time hat trick ledger and trails Apuzzo who has registered 19 hat tricks in her four seasons.

North’s fourth goal of the game was a two-point marker, which was her 16th two-pointer of her career … She extends her lead on the all-time chart in two-point goals.

Apuzzo moves to 7-2 in nine career meetings as a captain against Team Moreno … She has come out on top in five of the last six meetings between the two captains and has registered 20 goals in the nine matchups.
