Recap: Early Offense Guides Team Lorenz to 5-1 Win Over Team Kilfoyl

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Pitcher Rachel Garcia gave up one hit over 4.2 innings and outfielder Victoria Hayward drove in three runs as Team Lorenz notched a 5-1 triumph over Team Kilfoyl to complete Friday’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.

Garcia, who earned her first win of the season in the circle, garnered MVP 1 laurels and a season-high 216 leaderboard points after her stellar outing.

Hayward, meanwhile, was the game’s MVP 2 selection after going 2-for-4 with a single and a double, giving her a season-high 170 leaderboard points. Outfielder McKenzie Clark (150 points) completed the MVP sweep for the victorious side after driving in a run with a triple in the second inning.

Five different players registered a hit in the loss for Team Kilfoyl, including corner infielder Tori Vidales, who drove in the team’s lone run with a single in the sixth inning.

Captain Lexi Kilfoyl dropped to 5-3 in the circle after giving up five runs on six hits over 3.1 innings with one strikeout.

KEY MOMENT

Team Lorenz surged to a 5-0 lead in the first four innings, including a three-run outburst in the top of the second inning. Warren plated the first run of the evening with an infield single before scoring on a triple by outfielder McKenzie Clark. Clark upped the advantage to 3-0 on an RBI single by Hayward.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Outfielder Amanda Lorenz remains at the top of the leaderboard with a 148-point advantage over pitcher Aleshia Ocasio heading into Saturday’s doubleheader. Kilfoyl dropped to sixth place with the loss after earning just 10 points in the loss.

GAME NOTES

  • Teams are now 4-for-25 in captain’s challenges through 26 games after Team Lorenz and Team Kilfoyl each asked for a video review in Friday’s nightcap.

  • Team Kilfoyl initiated a captain’s challenge in the bottom of the fifth inning on an out call made against outfielder Caroline Jacobsen, who was trying to reach third base … The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld.

  • Team Lorenz also requested a captain’s challenge in the bottom of the seventh inning on an infield single by outfielder Kalei Harding … The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld.

  • Hayward authored her sixth multi-hit game of the season, including her third in as many games, after her two-hit performance in the win over Team Kilfoyl … The former Washington product has tallied six hits in her last three outings.

  • Hayward, corner infielder Kelsey Stewart-Hunter and catcher Taylor Edwards have now won five consecutive games after Team Lorenz’s victory over Team Kilfoyl on Friday night.

  • Lorenz has collected 100 or more leaderboard points in a league-best 11-of-13 games this season, including the last five in a row.

  • The Purple jersey has dropped its last four games after posting a 3-0 record in Week Three … Meanwhile, the Gold jersey stands at 4-0 in the last two weeks following a 1-2 mark during Week Three.
