Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse returns a pair of North Carolina Tar Heels to the roster for the upcoming 2023 season. Midfielders Ally Mastroianni and Marie McCool signed to compete with the league this summer.

Ally Mastroianni is a 2022 medalist, finishing third overall on the final leaderboard.

She was fifth in league with 394 stat points and shared seventh place with 105 MVP points. Both categories can be primarily attributed to her offensive prowess – she was the sixth-leading scorer in the league with 19 goals and also contributed 10 assists. Her consistency reigned through all 12 games, scoring at least one goal in 11-of-12 contests, including three hat tricks.

Mastroianni was a five-year letter winner for the Tar Heels from 2018-2022.  She finished her career as one of the most decorated midfielders in program history and holds the school record for draw controls with 360. She led UNC to its 2022  NCAA Championship with a perfect 22-0 record and earned IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year honors.

Marie McCool is a professional lacrosse veteran. In her two seasons with AU, she’s earned the fourth spot on the league’s career points leaders. She’s finished in the top 10 on the final leaderboard in both seasons — ninth in 2022 and fifth overall in 2021.

This past season, McCool led the league with 49 draw controls and also tied for the league-lead in ground balls with 33.

McCool was a four-year letter winner for the Tar Heels from 2015-18. She’s one of only two players in North Carolina history to be named as a Tewaaraton Award finalist twice. She was named the 2018 IWLCA National Midfielder of the Year in her senior year. She stands fifth on North Carolina’s career goals and points lists, and ninth on the career assist ledger.

McCool returned back to Chapel Hill this year as an assistant coach.

Tickets are on sale now for the start of the season on July 20 at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks Glencoe, MD.
