Aleshia Ocasio has informed Athletes Unlimited that she will be taking an indefinite leave of absence for the league’s inaugural softball competition to deal with a family emergency.

“Our thoughts are with Aleshia and her family and we respect their privacy during this very difficult time,” said Athletes Unlimited CEO Jon Patricof. “Her Athletes Unlimited family is here to support her in any way we can.”

Ocasio will retain her current 976 points and the league is exploring a potential replacement for the week four draft.

“To my AU family, your unending support and love, through and through, have been amazing. But, for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been heavy hearted due to issues regarding our family,” Ocasio said. “In order to show support and be present, I had to leave the bubble during a time of sensitivity and despair. It saddens me to leave but family is my main priority. I want to personally thank Jon and Jonathan (Soros) for founding this league, as well as the other 55 athletes who have made the experience thus far completely remarkable and humbling. It has been a pleasure and a dream to be a part of this organization and one of the 56 to debut in AU’s inaugural season. I do not have an anticipated return date, but AU still has my unending support (Go Week 3 Orange Team). Thank you.”
