Isabella Peterson
Biography
Personal: Peterson is the daughter of Eric and Michelle Peterson. Her younger sister, Jordan, plays lacrosse at James Madison, while her father played football at Towson University and her mother was a dual-sport athlete at Towson University, competing in soccer and track and field. Peterson majored in business management and finance at James Madison and also played basketball during her high school career.
2024 Season: Peterson was one of 16 players selected in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse College Draft.
At James Madison: Peterson was a five-year letter winner at James Madison and started 81 out of 82 contests for the Dukes from 2020-24. She finished her career as the school’s all-time leader with 298 goals, 363 points, and 329 draw controls. Peterson also tallied a school-record 56 career free-position goals and stands 11th on James Madison’s career ledger with 65 assists. She was a four-time First-Team All-Conference performer for Coach Shelley Klaes and received First-Team All-America selection from USA Lacrosse Magazine as a fifth-year senior after notching 75 goals with 13 assists. Peterson also garnered Second-Team IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse All-America as well as First-Team All-American Athletic Conference notice. She was a member of the 2024 IWLCA All-South Region First Team and scored multiple goals in all 19 games during senior campaign, including 18 hat tricks. Peterson registered six efforts with five or more goals while guiding Dukes to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She established James Madison single-season records for goals (91) and points (114) as a junior en route to First-Team All-America commendations from the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. Peterson was the fourth player in James Madison history to be named a finalist for Tewaaraton Award and received Attacker of the Year plaudits from the American Athletic Conference in addition to a First-Team All-AAC nod. She was also selected as Player of the Year by Virginia Sports Information Directors Association and ECAC. Peterson ranked second in NCAA Division I in goals, points, and shots and registered 18 hat tricks while leading Dukes to the 2023 NCAA quarterfinals. She matched JMU single-game record with an eight-goal outburst against High Point on February 25, 2023, and also added seven-goal performances against Johns Hopkins and Maryland. Peterson became the first player in program history to score three or more goals in the first quarter of a game when she accomplished the feat against North Carolina on February 11, 2023. As a redshirt sophomore, Peterson received Third-Team IWLCA All-America selection after notching 72 goals with 15 assists. She also collected Colonial Athletic Association and VaSID Player of the Year accolades and tied JMU single-game record with eight goals and 10 points against Hofstra on April 2, 2022. Peterson was named to the 2021 CAA All-Rookie Team in addition to being named VaSID Rookie of the Year. She scored 45 goals with 11 assists while starting 15 out of 16 games as a redshirt freshman and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team after notching five goals in the championship game against Drexel. She started all six games on attack during the COVID-shortened freshman campaign, scoring 15 goals with three assists.
