Rae Burrell
Biography
Personal: Burrell is the daughter of John and Ann Burrell. Her mother played basketball at the University of Nevada during the 1992-93 season, averaging 10.6 rebounds per game. Her father was an All-America performer in the long jump for University of Nevada track and field team. Her cousin, Evan Roquemore, played basketball at Santa Clara from 2010-14. Burrell earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies in May 2022.
Other Professional Experience: Burrell was the ninth overall selection in 2022 WNBA Draft by Los Angeles Sparks. She has appeared in 32 games over two WNBA seasons with Los Angeles, averaging 3.4 points and 1.2 rebounds per outing. She saw action in three games as a rookie before playing in 29 contests during the 2023 campaign. She netted five points in her WNBA debut against Chicago on May 5, 2022. Burrell posted three double-digit scoring outputs in 2023, including career-high 18 points at New York on September 7, 2023. She also tallied 13 points at Connecticut on September 5, 2023.
College Experience: Burrell was a four-year letter winner at Tennessee who started 47-of-110 games from 2018-22. She averaged 10.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game during her career. She collected 1,131 career points, including career-best 419 markers as a junior. She scored in double figures 59 times during her career, including 13 games with 20 or more points. Burrell earned Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference accolades by the league’s coaches after her junior season. She was a member of the 2022 NCAA Wichita Regional All-Tournament Team and a three-time Academic All-SEC selection. She paced the squad with .794 free throw percentage during senior season while averaging 12.3 points and 3.9 rebounds over 22 appearances. She also led the Lady Vols as a junior by making 40.2 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. She ranked second on the team with a 16.8 scoring average while being the only player on the team to start all 25 contests. Burrell earned the starting assignment nine times as a sophomore while ranking second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg). She averaged 3.7 points per game as a freshman with five double-digit performances.
