Biography
Personal: Gray is one of four siblings. She owns a restaurant named WNB Factory in Milledgeville, Ga. She pursued a major in broadcast journalism during her college years. Her hobbies include playing video games, reading books, watching movies and YouTube, and streaming on Twitch under the gamertag name Graytness15. Gray attributes her success and inspiration in life to her parents, Annie and Allen Gray, Sr.
2023 Season: In her first AU Pro Basketball season, Gray secured fourth place on the leaderboard with a total of 5,748 points. Gray notably had six games where she scored 500 or more points, reaching a season-high of 601 against Team Harrison on March 3. She maintained a consistent performance, finishing with 500 or more points in four of her last five games. Her standout moment came in Week Five, where she amassed 1,685 leaderboard points, the second-highest weekly total for any player that season. Gray ranked fifth in the league with 2,678 stat points, sharing the fourth position in the circuit for MVP points with 420 alongside Isabelle Harrison. She was the fifth-leading scorer in the league, averaging 19.4 points per game. She boasted a 91.8 percent conversion rate at the free throw line (67-for-73), ranking third in the league. She closed the season with 50 consecutive free throws over her final 10-plus games. Defensively, she showcased her prowess by securing the second position in the league with 14 blocked shots. Notably, she matched the single-game record with four rejections against Team Williams on Feb. 26. Gray also demonstrated versatility in various aspects of the game, ranking among the league leaders in field goals made (99) and attempted (214). Additionally, she made 26 three-pointers, tying for sixth place in the league. Her contribution extended to defense, recording 25 steals and drawing 52 fouls, placing her sixth in the league. She ranked eighth in the league for offensive rebounds (25) and assists (51). Gray showcased her versatility with a couple of double-double performances during the season, notably scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds against Team Williams and setting season highs with 27 points and 11 rebounds in a March 24 contest against Team Sims. Throughout her first AU Pro Basketball campaign, she consistently scored in double digits, opening with seven straight games of 10 or more points and rebounding after a limited scoring game to close the year with seven consecutive double-digit showings.
Other Professional Experience: Gray is a seven-year WNBA veteran who spent entire career with Dallas Wings before being acquired by Atlanta Dream on Jan. 23, 2023. She was selected by Dallas with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. She has averaged 12.7 points and 4.4 rebounds during her 218-game career, starting in 198 career games, including all 33 contests during 2022 season. She also earned the starting assignment in 38 games during her first campaign with Atlanta. She was recognized as 2017 WNBA Rookie of the Year and named to 2023 WNBA All-Star Game. Her best season came with Atlanta in 2023 after averaging 17.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game with a .465 field goal percentage. She contributed 13.3 points while shooting 42.3 percent from the field in final season with Dallas. She also grabbed 4.8 rebounds and dished out 2.5 assists per contest. She has reached double figures in scoring 28 times, including three games with 20 or more points. Gray netted a season-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field against Las Vegas on June 5, 2022. She was a starter in 16-of-25 games during the 2021 season and fashioned 11.9 scoring average. She netted 13.1 points per game in 2020 while starting 14-of-20 fixtures. In 2019, she tallied 10.7 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field, including 38.3 percent from three-point range. She started all 34 games during each of her first two seasons with the Wings.
International Experience: Gray was named the 2021 USA Basketball 3X3 Athlete of the Year. She helped Team USA win the Gold medal in the 3X3 event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She averaged 5.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game while leading United States to 8-1 record. She also shot 57.8 percent from the field, including 31.3 percent from beyond the two-point arc, while playing 7.4 minutes per game. Gray earned Tournament Most Valuable Player distinction at inaugural 3X3 2021 Big Twelve International event in Voiron, France, after guiding Team USA to 6-1 record and first place finish. She competed in the USA National Team’s four-game NCAA Tour in November 2019, averaging 5.5 points per game. She was a member of 2012 USA Basketball U-18 National Team, but missed FIBA Americas U-18 Championship due to an injury. She attended USA Basketball Women’s National Team Training Camp in February 2023.
College Experience: Gray's collegiate journey began at North Carolina before she transferred to South Carolina for her junior year. At UNC, she became the 35th player in the women's basketball history to score over 1,000 career points. Her achievements include First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and Honorable Mention All-America status by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. She is the second player in Tar Heel history with 500 or more points as a freshman, earning ACC All-Freshman Team distinction. Gray's impact continued at South Carolina, where she started 36 out of 37 games during the 2015-16 season. She ranked second on the team in scoring (13.2 ppg), steals (1.3 spg) and assists (2.5 apg), earned All-Tournament Team honors at the NCAA Final Four and NCAA Regionals, and averaged 16.5 points per game during NCAA Tournament while shooting 56.8 percent from the field. She chose to forego her senior season to enter the WNBA Draft.
