Week 1 Captains Set for AU Pro Softball Season 5
Odicci Alexander, Alyssa Denham, Gwen Svekis, and Sydney Romero will select and lead their teams for the first week of Season 5.
Teams will be announced on social media and the draft will be streamed live on the AU Pro Sports YouTube.
Alexander (gold) enters her fourth year with the league after claiming the 2023 Championship season title. Last year she established a new league single-season record for total win points. Alexander made 13 appearances in the circle and fashioned a 2.15 ERA across 42.1 innings thrown. She was third in the league for strikeouts (42) and held opponents to a .196 average. She led her teams to a 7-2 record as a captain.
Denham (orange) is the first AU Pro Softball athlete to earn a medal in back-to-back years after two consecutive second-place finishes on the leaderboard. She was the third-highest stat point earner of the season. Denham was a captain for two weeks last season, leading her teams to a 5-1 record. Of all pitchers, she had the best record (7-1) and the most proficient ERA at 1.51.
Matching her career-high finish, Svekis (blue) secured fifth overall on the final 2023 leaderboard. She tied with Alexander and Denham for the top record in the league of 12-3. She started all 15 games behind the plate and authored a .209 average as a hitter.
Romero (purple) spread her leaderboard points across the win, stat, and MVP categories, being a top-10 earner in all three last season. Her .380 on-base percentage and .525 slugging percentage fueled her 310 stat points and she was a game MVP four times.
The final leaderboard standings from the previous season determine the captains for the start of each new AU season. Although Rachel Garcia finished fourth in 2023, she will not arrive in market until after the draft due to her commitments with Team USA so Romero has replaced her as a captain.
The four captains will draft their teams on Monday, July 22, at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT on YouTube.
