Team Ohlmiller holds on for 11-8 victory against Team Arsenault

A seven-goal run in the first quarter helped Team Ohlmiller establish a healthy lead against Team Arsenault, which they were unable to overcome in a well-fought comeback effort. Team Ohlmiller received goals from seven of its players in the 12-8 victory.

After two weeks, there is a new leader atop the leaderboard. Arsenault slides into the No. 1 spot for Week 4 with 1,133 points. Kayla Wood dropped to the No. 2 spot after her first two losses of the season with 1,088 points. Taylor Cummings, who earned the most points of any player during Week 3 with 425 points, takes the No. 3 spot with 1,083 points. Goalie Kady Glynn takes the fourth spot on top of the leaderboard with 1,067 points.

Here’s the action from the final game of Week 3:

Getting the starting nod, Taylor Hensh also got things started on the field with Team Arsenault, putting the ball past Team Ohlmiller’s Haley Hicklen to make it 1-0. Two minutes late, she scored another at point blank.

Amanda Johansen, who was in the midst of her debut weekend with Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse, scored her second and third goals of the season for Team Ohlmiller. Her second goal, scored while being a player up, came from behind the key for a two-pointer to make it 3-2. Team Ohlmiller began to find its groove as another goal came from Taryn VanThof off the pass from captain Kylie Ohlmiller.

Nicole Levy extended the lead and put another two-pointer on the board for Team Ohlmiller on a free-position goal. A seventh unanswered point came from Ohlmiller to lead her team into the second quarter with a 7-2 advantage.

Dempsey Arsenault ended Team Ohlmiller’s run as she converted on a free-position shot early on in the second quarter, but it wasn’t for long.

Entering the third quarter, Team Ohlmiller had a five-point advantage, leading Team Arsenault 9-4. However, Team Ohlmiller and Team Arsenault both scored two goals each in the second quarter, making the third worth 40 win points.

Molly Little and Arsenault, who paired to score three consecutive goals in the third, cut the deficit to 9-7.

Levy ended Team Ohlmiller’s scoring drought to give the team double digits in the score, 10-7, but it was Team Arsenault that captured the 40 win points on the line outscoring Team Ohlmiller 3-1.

Haley Warden scored her scored her second goal of the season to extend Team Ohlmiller’s lead to four and despite a goal from Kelly McPartland, Team Arsenault was unable to finish the comeback as Team Ohlmiller went on to win 11-8. Team Arsenault earned 40 win points, while Team Ohlmiller earned 85.

Johansen earned MVP 1 honors (+45) and tallied 176 points in the final game of the weekend. Sam Apuzzo had 141 points on the day, include 30 points from being named MVP 2. Levy earned an additional 15 points from being named MVP 3 for 122 points.
