Recap: Team Thompson secures close victory against Team Hentz

OMAHA, Nebraska — Opposite Jordan Thompson utilized a match-high 19 kills to pilot Team Thompson to a narrow 71-70 victory over Team Hentz to close out the AU Pro Volleyball Championship doubleheader at Liberty First Credit Union Arena on Sunday night.

KEY MOMENT

Team Hentz took the first set by a 25-19 count before Team Thompson edged out the second frame, 27-25. Team Thompson took the match lead late in the third set and held on for a 71-70 victory.

LEADERBOARD UPDATE

Thompson remains atop the leaderboard entering Monday’s Week Two finale with 1,802 points, while setter Natalia Valentin-Anderson sits in second place with 1,283 points. Outside hitter Reagan Cooper remains in the third position with 1,231 points, while libero Morgan Hentz dipped to fourth place with 1,132 points.

  • Libero Morgan Hentz captained her teams to eight consecutive set victories dating back to Week One before Team Thompson claimed the middle frame with a 27-25 verdict.
  • Hentz’s streak of five consecutive victories as a team captain was also halted with Sunday’s setback.
  • Outside hitter Reagan Cooper, who earned MVP 1 honors for the third time this season, has posted three consecutive double-digit kill efforts, including back-to-back outings with 15 or more kills … She earned 231 leaderboard points after smashing a team-best 18 kills with four digs and one service ace.
