Recap: Team Lorenz Turns Tables on Team Kilfoyl in 2-0 Verdict
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Pitcher Aleshia Ocasio carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and middle infielder Hannah Flippen drove in the game’s only runs as Team Lorenz blanked Team Kilfoyl by a 2-0 margin to complete Saturday’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship Season doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
The victory moved Team Lorenz’s record to 2-0, while Team Kilfoyl dipped to 1-1.
Ocasio, who finished with 240 leaderboard points, earned MVP 1 accolades and upped her record to 2-0 after allowing one hit over five-plus innings of work with two strikeouts. Pitcher Kathryn Sandercock nailed down her second save of the campaign after giving up one hit in the final 2.0 frames.
Flippen followed with MVP 2 distinction and 180 leaderboard points after her two-run double secured the victory. Outfielder Victoria Hayward completed the Game MVP sweep, taking home MVP 3 plaudits after belting a pair of singles.
Outfielder Aliyah Andrews and middle infielder Sis Bates accounted for Team Kilfoyl’s two hits in the loss. Captain Lexi Kilfoyl (3-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on five hits in 4.0 innings with four strikeouts.
KEY MOMENT
Team Lorenz plated the game’s only runs in the top of the first inning as Flippen slugged a double to left center field that brought Hayward and outfielder Amanda Lorenz across home plate. Ocasio, meanwhile, did not allow a hit until the bottom of the sixth inning when Andrews drove a single into center field.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
The win allowed Lorenz to inch past Kilfoyl into the top spot on the leaderboard with 760 points, while Ocasio surged ahead 18 spots to land in third place heading into Sunday’s twinbill. The 2021 AU Pro Softball titleist holds a slim 12-point advantage over rookie infielder Skylar Wallace ahead of the clash between Team Lorenz and Team Wallace.
