
Recap: Team Effort Boosts Team Hoffman to End Week 2
OMAHA, Nebraska — Led by a combined 40 kills from opposites Brittany Abercrombie, Temi Thomas-Ailara, and outside hitter Claire Hoffman, Team Hoffman ended its two-match losing streak with a 72-60 AU Pro Volleyball Championship victory over Team Hentz in the first match of Monday’s doubleheader at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
KEY MOMENT
Team Hoffman, which led by just a 47-46 margin after two sets, pulled away in the final frame with an impressive .434 team hitting percentage. Thomas-Ailara, Hoffman, and Abercrombie led the charge by teaming up to post 17 of the squad’s 21 kills in the set.
LEADERBOARD UPDATE
Hoffman climbed seven spots on the leaderboard with the victory on Monday night, moving into fourth place with 1,250 total points. Abercrombie, meanwhile, rose eight positions after her MVP 3 performance and stands seventh with 1,141 points.
TEAM HOFFMAN NOTES
- Team Hoffman limited Team Hentz to just 14 points in the final set, equaling the fewest points conceded by a team in a single set this season … Team Valentin-Anderson was held to 14 points in the second set against Team Hentz in the Week Two opener on Thursday night.
- Outside hitter Claire Hoffman earned her first career victory as a team captain with Monday night’s result … She completes her inaugural stint as a captain with a 1-2 record.
- Hoffman, who secured a season-high 308 leaderboard points, also authored the fourth double-double of her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career with 11 kills and a season-high 13 digs … She has recorded 10 or more kills in three of her last four outings.
- Opposite Temi Thomas-Ailara secured MVP 1 honors for the second time in her career after closing Monday’s victory with her eighth career double-digit kill performance … The former Wisconsin standout also tallied a season-high 319 leaderboard points, marking her third career match with 300 or more points.
- Middle blocker Annayka Legros enjoyed her best outing of the season after smashing nine kills with a .500 hitting percentage … The Coastal Carolina product also contributed three solo blocks to claim MVP 2 honors.
- Legros, who became the 19th different player to earn a match MVP award this season, earned 268 leaderboard points on Monday after totaling 286 points in her first five matches.
- Opposite Brittany Abercrombie collected the 12th Match MVP award of her AU Pro Volleyball career after garnering MVP 3 status on Monday night … Abercrombie fashioned a season-high 302 leaderboard points after tallying 13 kills with nine digs.
- Abercrombie has now recorded five consecutive matches with 10 or more kills after being held to just five kills in the season opener against Team Hentz on October 3 … She has recorded double-digit kills in 19-of-21 career matches dating back to last season.
- Setter Micha Hancock, who elevated her position on the leaderboard by 14 spots on Monday night, posted her second double-double of the season after dishing out 42 assists with 10 digs … She secured her first double-double against Team Kingdon Rishel on October 3 after contributing 27 assists with 11 digs.
TEAM HENTZ NOTES
- Outside hitter Dani Drews has recorded 10 or more kills in all six matches this season after tallying 11 kills in Monday’s loss … Drews and opposite Jordan Thompson are the only players in the league this season with 10 or more kills in every match.
- Drews also became the 11th player in AU Pro Volleyball Championship history to tally 300 or more career digs after her seven-dig effort on Monday night.
- Outside hitter Reagan Cooper posted her fourth consecutive double-digit kill effort on Monday night after pacing Team Hentz with 16 kills.
- Libero Morgan Hentz has tallied 10 or more digs in 21 consecutive matches dating back to last season after ending Monday’s loss with 11 digs.
