Recap: Team Bosco Holds Off Team Glynn, 8-7

SPARKS, Md. — Team Bosco held off a late surge by Team Glynn in the fourth quarter to secure an 8-7 victory in the first game of Sunday afternoon’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse doubleheader at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.

Team Bosco completes Week One at 2-1 after securing its second win in a row, while Team Glynn dropped to 1-2.

Midfielder Marie McCool earned MVP 1 honors and 169 leaderboard points in the victory, registering seven draw controls and two ground balls.

Goalkeeper Britt Read picked up MVP 2 accolades for the second straight day. She made five saves with three ground balls and two caused turnovers to finish with 155 leaderboard points.

Goalkeeper Kady Glynn was named MVP 3 in the losing effort for Team Glynn. The team captain tallied 95 leaderboard points after making 10 saves with one ground ball and one turnover.

Led by attackers Sam Geiersbach and Izzy Scane, Team Bosco received goals from seven different players. Geiersbach registered a two-goal effort, while Scane chipped in a goal with two assists.

Rookie attacker Maggi Hall matched Geiersbach’s game-high two goals in a losing effort for Team Glynn. Six different players recorded a goal for Team Glynn in the defeat.

KEY MOMENT

Team Bosco held a 7-4 advantage after three quarters, but Team Glynn narrowed the deficit to 7-6 within the first four minutes of the final period. Rookie attacker Erin Coykendall scored the eventual game-winning marker to give Team Bosco a two-goal edge it did not relinquish.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

McCool’s 169 leaderboard points pushed her to the top of the standings with 443 points, while Read jumped 14 spots to second place with 398 points. Scane continued her climb up the leaderboard, rising 16 spots into fifth place with 310 leaderboard points.

GAME NOTES

  • Teams are now 2-for-6 in captain’s challenges this season … Team Bosco initiated a captain’s challenge on a shot by midfielder Hannah Dorney that was initially ruled as hitting the crossbar and not a goal with 2:22 left in the third quarter … The call on the field was confirmed as no goal.

  • After giving up 10 points in its loss to Team Moreno on Thursday, Team Bosco conceded a combined 14 points in the victories over Team Apuzzo and Team Glynn to finish its slate.

  • The game featured 15 different players registering a point, including 13 goal scorers.

  • Geiersbach finished with two goals for Team Bosco … The total marked the 16th multi-goal performance of her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career.

  • Hall posted her second multi-goal game of the weekend after ending play with a pair of tallies … She opened her AU Pro Lacrosse career with a four-goal outburst on Thursday night against Team Apuzzo.

  • Glynn notched 10 or more saves for the 15th time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career, including the third straight game, after her 10-save outing on Sunday … Glynn closed the opening segment of the season with 37 saves, which are tied for the fourth-highest single-week total in league history … Two-time reigning champion Taylor Moreno holds the all-time mark with 40 saves during Week Two in 2023.

  • McCool accumulated seven or more draw controls in a game for the fourth time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career after collecting a game-high seven draw controls on Sunday.

  • McCool also earned the fifth MVP 1 award of her AU Pro Lacrosse career, moving into a tie for second place on the league’s career chart … She also received Game MVP honors for the 10th time in her career, becoming the seventh player in league history to do so.
