Recap: North Continues to Break Records Despite Team Moreno's 16-8 Win Over Team North

SPARKS, Md. — Despite taking an extra few days than intended, Team Moreno returned to the field against Team North for a 16-8 victory in a continuation of their contest from Saturday afternoon to start off Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse play on Monday morning at USA Lacrosse Headquarters

With the win, Team Moreno rounds out Week Three at 2-1, while Team North drops to 2-1.

Attacker Charlotte North continued her record-breaking season as she set the Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse single-season goal record and stands at 39 goals on the year. She also reset her own weekly goal record with 16 markers during Week Three competition. On Monday morning, she finished with five goals, including a two-point tally, to garner MVP 1 laurels and 124 leaderboard points despite Team North’s loss.

Rookie attacker Isabella Peterson netted six goals, including four in the first half, to lead Team Moreno in scoring. She earned MVP 2 laurels for her performance and a career-high 204 points towards the standings.

Midfielder Katie O’Donnell rounded out the postgame honors with MVP 3 accolades after contributing a goal, a ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers. She accumulated 151 leaderboard points.

For Team Moreno, midfielders Marie McCool and rookie Megan Kinna each tallied three goals, while three others pitched in one apiece.

Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno guided her team in the cage with 11 saves, including five in the second quarter.

Attacker Livy Rosenzweig led the game with 10 draw controls for Team North despite the loss, while midfielders Lauren Gilbert and Hannah Dorney each scored once.

KEY MOMENT

Team Moreno raced out to an 8-1 lead in the first quarter, including the first eight goals of the contest. Team North ventured on a 3-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter, but were never able to trim the deficit to less than six goals throughout the contest.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

North sits atop the leaderboard with 1,259 points, while attacker Sam Apuzzo ranks second with 1,193 points. Moreno ranks third with 1,170 points and midfielder Ally Kennedy holds steady in fourth with 1,005 points.

GAME NOTES

  • North’s new single-season goal record surpasses the 36 goals scored by Apuzzo in the inaugural 2021 season … She stands at 39 markers on the year.

  • In addition, North became the second player in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse history to reach the 100-goal plateau after Apuzzo achieved the total in the inaugural 2021 season.

  • With record setting in mind, North also breaks her own single-week scoring record as she finishes Week Three with 16 goals … She has now set the single-week goal record in each of the first three weeks this season.

  • North recorded her 21st hat trick of her AU Pro Lacrosse career … She passed Apuzzo for most hat tricks in league history and extended her goal streak to 19 consecutive games.

  • With a two-point goal at the 2:48 mark of the third quarter, North netted her 17th AU Pro Lacrosse two-point tally to extend her league record.

  • Peterson notched a career-high six goals for Team Moreno in the defeat … It is her fourth career AU Pro Lacrosse game with at least three goals and is the sixth instance a player has scored at least six goals in a game … North broke the standing single-game record of six markers in yesterday’s action with an eight-goal burst against Team Kennedy.

  • Kinna notched her third two-point goal of the season with 17 seconds left in the first quarter … It is the 14th two-point marker of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse season.

  • Team Moreno opened up an 8-1 lead in the first quarter … The eight points are the most in a single 10-minute quarter so far this season.

  • Goalkeeper Paulina DiFatta made her season debut in the cage after entering the game to start the second quarter.

  • Team Moreno’s 12 points on the scoreboard in the first half matched the most by a team in half in league history … Previously, Team Apuzzo tallied 12 points in the second half of its 18-7 triumph against Team Moreno on July 21, 2024.

  • Moreno registered 11 saves for her 26th game with double-digit saves, which extends her lead on the all-time league charter.

  • Rosenzweig’s 10 draw controls marks her sixth time finishing with double-digit draw controls and the fifth time this season she has achieved the number … She has the most games with 10 or more draws in league history.

  • North registers her 13th Game MVP honor and eighth MVP 1 accolade … She ranks second for most top postgame honors in AU Pro Lacrosse history.

  • The game entered a lightning delay at 5:28 of the third quarter … The delay lasted several hours before the game was suspended and resumed on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
