Recap: Kilfoyl Enjoys 6-0 Shutout Win Over Team Wallace in Debut as Captain

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Catcher Taylor Edwards registered a pair of hits and drove in four runs while pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl registered 5.0 scoreless innings in the circle as Team Kilfoyl blanked Team Wallace by a 6-0 count to complete Friday’s split doubleheader in Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball action at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.

Edwards, who finished the night going 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, earned MVP 1 honors and 240 leaderboard points after guiding the Team Kilfoyl offense.

Kilfoyl received MVP 2 distinction after upping her record to 3-0 in the circle with another outstanding effort. The rookie right-handed pitcher scattered three hits and struck out five en route to collecting 220 leaderboard points.

Rookie outfielder Claire Davidson completed the Game MVP sweep after receiving MVP 3 notice. The former Duke standout reached base safely in all four plate appearances, including a pair of hits to go with a walk and a hit by pitch.

Pitcher Rachel Garcia teamed up with Kilfoyl to post the shutout, throwing the final 2.0 innings without conceding a hit to earn her first save of the season.

Three different players tallied a hit in the loss for Team Wallace. Megan Faraimo dropped to 0-3 after giving up three runs on four hits over 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.

KEY MOMENT

Team Kilfoyl claimed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on an infield single by middle infielder Sis Bates before adding two more runs in the fifth on Edwards’ double to right center field. A Davidson RBI single and Edwards’ two-run blast to center field extended the margin to 6-0 in the top of the seventh inning.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Kilfoyl’s 220-point outburst put her back into the top spot on the leaderboard with 728 points, setting up a showdown with outfielder Amanda Lorenz, who holds second place in the league standings, during Saturday evening’s second game. Edwards, meanwhile, rocketed up the leaderboard by 20 spots and owns fifth place with 490 points.

GAME NOTES

  • Team Wallace initiated a captain’s challenge on middle infielder Erin Coffel’s strikeout to end the sixth inning … The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld … Teams are now 1-for-6 in captain’s challenges through eight games.

  • Players are now 17-20 when making their debut as a captain in AU Pro Softball Championship Season play … Kilfoyl and middle infielder Skylar Wallace were both leading a team for the first time in their brief Athletes Unlimited careers.

  • Team Kilfoyl authored the 22nd shutout in AU Pro Shutout Championship Season history, including the third clean sheet this season … Kilfoyl has been involved in two of the three shutouts after helping Team Romero blank Team Svekis, 6-0, last Sunday.

  • Team Kilfoyl also registered the fourth win points sweep of the 2024 Championship Season with its 6-0 victory on Friday night … It is the 36th win points sweep in Championship Season history.

  • Kilfoyl has not allowed a run in her last 18.2 innings after throwing 5.0 shutout frames against Team Wallace on Friday night … Her only run allowed came in the first inning against Team Alexander last Friday night.

  • Team Kilfoyl’s top four hitters in the lineup accounted for six of the squad’s nine hits in the victory.

  • Outfielder Aliyah Andrews extended her hitting streak to 14 consecutive games dating back to last season with an infield single in the top of the third inning.

  • Bates has recorded a hit in all four games this season after an infield single in the top of the third inning … She has hit safely in six of her last seven games dating back to last season.

  • Outfielder Kayla Kowalik posted her first hit of the season with a double to lead off the fifth inning, snapping an 0-for-7 drought … She also added a bunt single in the sixth inning for her first multi-hit effort in Championship Season play.
