Recap: Chen leads Eclipse in 100-92 Victory over Glow
NASHVILLE — Guard Kaitlyn Chen led six players in double figures with 18 points and added six assists as Eclipse won its second straight game with a 100-92 victory over Glow to begin Friday night’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball doubleheader at Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
Eclipse upped its record to 2-0 after surpassing 100 points for the second straight outing, while Glow saw its Week One record dip to 1-1. Chen, who collected MVP 1 notice and 634 leaderboard points, converted all seven of her field goal attempts, including a three-pointer, while going 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
Center Mercedes Russell secured MVP 3 distinction after nearly registering a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while guard Aneesah Morrow added 14 points with 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. Glow was led by guard Zia Cooke, who scored a game-high 25 points to secure MVP 2 accolades. She knocked down 8-of-12 field goal attempts, including a 4-for-7 effort from three-point range, while converting 5-of-6 free throws.
Forward NaLyssa Smith secured her second straight double-double after contributing 19 points with 10 rebounds, while center Tina Charles added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first AU Pro Basketball double-double.
KEY MOMENT
Trailing by a 49-43 count with 2:03 remaining in the first half, Eclipse responded with a 19-5 run to take a 62-54 lead with 7:21 left in the third quarter. Chen led the comeback effort with six points as Eclipse never relinquished the advantage.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Chen took over the top spot on the leaderboard with 1,176 points, while guard Rebekah Gardner sits just 12 points behind in second place. Morrow and forward Asia Taylor round out the top four spots in the league standings through three games.
ECLIPSE NOTES
- Eclipse requested a captain’s challenge with 2:42 left in the second quarter on an out-of-bound call … The challenge was successful.
