LOVB Semifinals Recap: Golden Sets Send Austin, Salt Lake to Finals
The League One Volleyball Playoffs delivered no shortage of dramatic moments, with both series pushed to the limit. After the top four teams split their respective two-match competitions, golden sets determined who would advance to the championship.
With everything on the line, it came down to execution in the final moments. Austin and Atlanta needed every set to decide their series, with the final spot coming down to a decisive race to 15.
Atlanta vs. Austin
Austin advanced to the LOVB Championship after a split semifinal series with Atlanta, capped by a 15-8 win in the golden set.
Austin opened the series with a straight-set sweep, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21, behind Carli Lloyd’s 36 assists as she led the team to a .370 hitting percentage. Atlanta responded in Match 2, battling back in a five-set win, 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 29-31, 15-11, powered by Ivonee Montaño’s 33 kills to even the series.
Deciding Moment – Madison Skinner Slams the Door
Madison Skinner delivered in the final moment of the series.
With Austin holding a late lead in the golden set, Skinner extended the advantage to 13-8 with a kill. After an Atlanta error brought up match point, she closed it out with an ace to send Austin back to the championship.
Houston vs. Salt Lake
Salt Lake advanced to the LOVB Championship after a split semifinal series with Houston, capped by a 19-17 win in the golden set.
Houston opened the series with a five-set win, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-7, behind a dominant performance from middle blocker Amber Igiede, who totaled 19 points with 13 kills, three aces, and three blocks. Houston’s presence at the net proved decisive, as the team finished the match with 14 total blocks after taking control late in the match.
Salt Lake responded in Match 2 with a sweep, 25-20, 25-23, 25-13, behind an efficient offensive performance that forced the decisive golden set. Jordyn Poulter paced the attack with 59 assists as Salt Lake hit .416 in the match.
Deciding Moment – Salt Lake Closes with Three Straight
Salt Lake delivered when it mattered most.
With her team trailing 17-16 in the golden set, Serena Gray evened the score with a kill. Claire Hoffman followed with another to give Salt Lake set point, and Heydi Casanova finished it with a final kill to clinch the 19-17 win and send Salt Lake to the championship.

What’s Next: Championship Series Guide
The LOVB Championship is set, with Austin and Salt Lake meeting for the title after both teams survived semifinal golden sets.
The finals will follow the same two-match format, with matches scheduled for April 16 and April 18. If the teams split, a golden set to 15 points will immediately follow the second match to decide the champion.
Austin enters the championship looking to defend its title, while Salt Lake will look to carry its late postseason momentum into the final round after knocking off top-seeded Houston.
Both matches will be played at the LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid in Long Beach, California, with coverage available on USA Network.
