OMAHA, Nebraska — Opposite Jordan Thompson posted 20 kills in her AU Pro Volleyball Championship debut to lead Team Hentz to a 70-60 victory against Team Abercrombie to complete the season-opening doubleheader inside Liberty First Credit Union Arena on Friday night.

KEY MOMENT

Team Hentz utilized a 9-2 run in the opening set to take a 25-20 lead before Team Abercrombie evened the match score with an identical 25-20 result in the middle stanza. Thompson put down seven of her 20 match kills in the final set to guide Team Hentz to victory, 70-60.

LEADERBOARD UPDATE

Setter Natalia Valentin-Anderson earned MVP 2 plaudits and stands atop the leaderboard with 330 points. Thompson finished the night as the only other player with 300 or more points after collecting 310 points in her debut. Captain Morgan Hentz holds the No. 5 slot with 245 points as seven of the top 10 spots in the league standings are occupied by members of Team Hentz.

TEAM ABERCROMBIE NOTES

  • Opposite Brittany Abercrombie now holds a 10-3 record as a captain during her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career … In addition, she lost back-to-back matches as a captain for the first time in her two seasons … The defeat also marks the first time Team Abercrombie has lost to a captain other than outside hitter Bethania De La Cruz-Mejía.
  • Middle blocker Molly McCage collected five blocks against Team Hentz, marking the sixth time she has tallied five or more rejections in a match during her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career.
  • Setter Sydney Hilley registered at least 30 assists in a match for the 25th time in her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career, which is tied for the third-highest total in league history … She finished with 31 assists while adding three solo blocks and a pair of kills.
  • Middle blocker Elise Goetzinger hit at an impressive .889 clip with eight kills and no errors on nine attempts in her league debut.
  • Outside hitter Alexa Gray led Team Abercrombie with nine kills and added five digs in her first AU Pro Volleyball Championship match.

  • Hentz tallied 13 digs in the victory on Friday night, marking the 44th time she has surpassed 10 or more digs in her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career.
