Jordan Thompson Earns Player of the Week Honors with Back-to-Back 24-Kill Outings

Week Four of League One Volleyball featured a standout week from Jordan Thompson, who powered LOVB Houston to two wins and earned back-to-back Player of the Match honors. After setting a new season high with 22 kills against Nebraska last month, Thompson blew past that mark twice in the span of four days.

Thompson opened the week on Wednesday in Atlanta with a statement outing, tallying 26 points and 24 kills on 53 attempts (.396 efficiency) along with two blocks. Houston dropped the second set but regrouped to take the next two and secure the 3-1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-22, 25-23) win. Madi Kingdon Rishel supported the effort with seven kills, nine digs, and four blocks.

Despite the loss, Tessa Grubbs kept up her hot offensive streak with 20 kills, seven digs, and two blocks for Atlanta. Piyanut Pannoy anchored the backcourt with a team-high 16 digs and a team-high 76.9 efficiency on serve receive.

Thompson added another dominant performance Sunday versus Madison in Houston’s 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) win, earning her second straight Player of the Match award. She finished with 24 kills, two aces, and one block–her second straight 24-kill performance and a new bar for her season. In addition to her two match honors, her Week Four performance earned her Offensive Player of the Week league honors. 

LOVB Austin at LOVB Salt Lake

Salt Lake fought through a tough five-set battle Thursday night, dropping the first two sets before rattling off three straight to take the 3-2 (20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-10) win. Alexa Gray was named Player of the Match after posting 26 points with 24 kills on 55 attempts, two blocks, and nine digs.

Skylar Fields tallied a season-high 10 kills on 20 attempts with no errors and added nine digs and three blocks. Middles Tori Dixon and Sophie Fischer recorded six and five kills apiece, with Fischer adding a season-high, team-high six blocks.

Austin put up a fight, led by Molly McCage, who chipped in 10 kills on 18 attempts for a .444 efficiency with four blocks. Khat Bell added seven kills, six digs, and three blocks.

LOVB Madison at LOVB Nebraska

Nebraska closed out a five-set thriller Friday night, dropping the first set before clawing back to take the 3-2 (19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 24-26, 16-14) win in a match that went down to the wire in the fifth frame.

Jaali Winters led Nebraska offensively with 12 kills and matched that in digs, while Emily Thater added eight kills and two blocks. Despite the loss, Annayka Legros tallied eight kills for Madison with a team-best .538 efficiency, and Temi Thomas-Ailara added six kills in the effort.

LOVB Atlanta at LOVB Salt Lake

Salt Lake closed out the home stand Saturday with a dominant three-set sweep over Atlanta, 25-16, 25-11, 27-25. Tori Dixon earned Player of the Match honors after posting 11 points, six kills, and four blocks on a team-high .667 hitting efficiency with no errors.

Alexa Gray added 11 kills on 26 attempts, along with six digs and two blocks.

LOVB Austin at LOVB Nebraska

Austin closed out the week on Sunday with a 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-15, 25-16) win over Nebraska, dropping only the second set before pulling away.

McCage helped lead the offense with eight kills, one ace, two blocks, and four digs. For Nebraska, Jaali Winters led the team with 13 kills and seven digs, while Emily Thater added six kills and two blocks.
