Recap: Halle Majorana nets second hat trick in Team Arsenault's win

SPARKS, Md. — Over the last three games, it has been attacker Halle Majorana’s ability to find teammates for goals. In Saturday’s Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse game between Team Arsenault and Team Johansen, she added the ability to score goals.

The former Syracuse standout tallied three goals and dished out two assists en route to earning MVP 3 honors as Team Arsenault downed Team Johansen by an 11-7 count at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.

Majorana posted her second hat trick of the season and finished with 102 leaderboard points as Team Arsenault evened its record at 1-1. Team Johansen, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2 in Week Two action.

Goalkeeper Caylee Waters anchored a strong defensive effort from Team Arsenault by notching nine saves. The North Carolina alum claimed MVP 1 distinction and finished the afternoon with 202 points, lifting her 18 spots on the leaderboard.

Team captain Dempsey Arsenault followed with 141 leaderboard points on the strength of two goals and two assists while adding three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Rookie attacker Lauren Gilbert led Team Johansen in the loss with three goals while attacker Izzy McMahon added a pair of markers.

KEY MOMENT

After the teams traded goals to open the contest, Team Arsenault ran off four consecutive tallies to take a 5-1 lead it did not relinquish. Team Johansen trimmed the deficit to 7-5 in the third quarter, but Team Arsenault netted four of the final six goals to secure its first win of the week.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

The win allowed Arsenault to rise three spots on the leaderboard and move into the No. 2 position pending the results of Saturday’s second game between Team Moreno and Team Apuzzo. Defender Courtney Taylor also elevated her ranking by nine spots, moving into the No. 7 position in the league standings.

GAME NOTES

  • Team Johansen outshot Team Arsenault by a 28-25 margin, including a 16-11 edge in the first half.

  • Team Arsenault held a 14-8 advantage in draw controls and a 15-14 count in ground balls.

  • Majorana posted her second hat trick of the season after scoring three goals in the season-opening contest against Team Apuzzo … In addition, her five points (three goals, two assists) are a season high.

  • Majorana has posted three or more points in all five games this season.

  • Attacker Nicole Levy saw her 16-game goal-scoring streak come to a close after being held without a goal for the third time in her Athletes Unlimited career … During the streak, she tallied 26 goals with seven multi-goal efforts.

  • Waters became the third player in Athletes Unlimited history to reach the 2,000-point mark for her career after tallying 202 points in Saturday’s victory … She now owns 2,197 leaderboard points in 20 career games, which stands second in league history behind attacker Sam Apuzzo.

  • The teams split the quarter win points with Team Arsenault winning the first and third quarters and Team Johansen claiming the second and fourth periods.
