Recap: Abercrombie power Team Drews to three-set sweep, 75-62

MADISON, Wisconsin — Opposite Brittany Abercrombie tallied 13 kills and seven digs while outside hitters Natália Zilio Pereira and Dani Drews each added nine kills with nine digs as Team Drews secured a three-set sweep over Team Hentz with a 75-62 victory in the penultimate match of the 2025 AU Pro Volleyball Championship season at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center on Sunday afternoon.

KEY MOMENT

Drews and Abercrombie combined for 10 kills in the opening set as Team Drews established an early 25-23 lead. The squad expanded its match advantage with a 25-19 victory in the middle frame before closing out the match with a 25-20 result in the final stanza.

LEADERBOARD UPDATE

Zilio Pereira moved into third place on the leaderboard with 2,706 total points, while Drews follows in fourth place with 2,600 points. Abercrombie, meanwhile, surged six spots into sixth place after her 379-point outburst on Sunday.

TEAM HENTZ NOTES

  • Outside hitter Alexa Gray posted her third double-digit kill effort this season after closing Sunday’s contest with a season-high 18 kills … She also had 13 kills against Team Kingdon Rishel on October 5 in addition to a 10-kill outing against Team De La Cruz-Mejia on October 6.
  • Setter Madi Bugg authored the seventh double-double of her AU Pro Volleyball Championship career, including her fourth double-double of the season, after dishing out 36 assists with 13 digs.
  • Libero Morgan Hentz extended her streak of consecutive double-digit dig efforts to 27 matches after closing Sunday’s loss with 10 digs … Hentz, the league’s all-time leader in career digs, will finish the season as the league leader with 169 digs in 12 matches.
  • Outside hitter Bethania De La Cruz-Mejía finished with 10 kills in Sunday’s loss against Team Hentz, marking the 58th time she has collected double-digit kills in her five-year AU Pro Volleyball Championship career.
    • De La Cruz-Mejia finishes the 2025 season as the league’s all-time leader with 914 career kills.
  • Middle blocker Molly McCage recorded her sixth match with three or more solo blocks this season after ending Sunday’s game with three rejections … McCage ends the season as the league leader with 34 solo blocks.
    • McCage completes the 2025 campaign as the league’s all-time leader with 149 career blocks in 203 sets.

TEAM DREWS NOTES

  • Team Drews authored the fifth win points sweep of the season, including the first sweep since October 12, when Team Valentin-Anderson downed Team Hoffman by a 75-64 count.
    • There have now been 42 win points sweeps in AU Pro Volleyball Championship’s five-year history.
  • Outside hitter Dani Drews has won three of her last four matches as a captain after losing her previous 11 fixtures in a row … Drews now stands 7-14 all-time as a captain.
  • Drews had her streak of 11 consecutive matches with 10 or more kills snapped after finishing with nine kills and nine digs against Team Hentz on Sunday.
  • Drews, who ends the season with a 7-5 record, compiled five wins in her final six matches after opening the season with a 2-4 mark in her first six outings.
  • Opposite Brittany Abercrombie led Team Drews with 13 kills while posting a .414 hitting percentage … It marked the 24th time in 27 career matches where Abercrombie crossed the 10-kill plateau.

  • Monserez moved her individual match record to 9-3 after winning for the ninth time in her last 10 contests.
  • Monserez also surpassed 30 assists in a match for the sixth time this season, giving her 10 career contests with 30 or more assists.
  • Middle blocker Serena Gray finished with a season-high 288 leaderboard points after earning MVP 3 honors for the second match in a row … Gray smashed eight kills and posted a .467 hitting percentage while adding two solo blocks and one block assist.
  • Middle blocker Tori Dixon won for the third time in her last four matches after a four-match losing streak … She contributed three kills with two solo blocks and three block assists in Sunday’s victory.
