If Series One of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball AUX season was competitive and well-matched, somehow even better games transpired in Series Two. Not only did all three teams split the records evenly again at 2-2, but the games moved with a quick pace and incredible performances from the circle.

Team Edwards took the most win points, largely due to their innings sweep in the series finale that brought their series total to 290 points. Team Alo collected 240 win points while Team Clark had 190.

Jocelyn Alo remains at the top, with Bubba Nickles and Mariah Mazon moving in behind her on the leaderboard with six games left in the season.

Mover of the Week: Morgan Zerkle

Making the largest leap up the leaderboard after Series Two play is outfielder Morgan Zerkle, breaking into the top 10 from 35th. She was the stat point leader in the series, logging 138 points in the category.

Zerkle collected points at the plate on five singles, a home run, and a sac hit in 14 at-bats. She padded her earnings in the base path, stealing safely thrice for an extra 30 points to her tab.

Despite her team’s loss on Sunday, Zerkle’s two-run home run helped her team pick up their first inning win points of the game and secure her MVP 2 distinction for 60 points in the category.

Mazon Makes a crucial advance

Although pitcher Mariah Mazon didn’t make the biggest move of the week, she might have made the most important one.

Mazon shifted up the leaderboard 11 spots to become a captain for the first time. This allowed her to build her own team and control her fate as a pitcher in the season’s final games.

Mazon had two stellar outings in Series Two: on Sunday against Team Clark she threw for six innings as the starter with only two earned runs. She logged four strikeouts, five hits, and a sole walk. Her team wasn’t able to seal a victory but she earned MVP 2 honors for the performance.

On Wednesday night, she threw an absolute gem — the best of her AU career. Mazon threw a complete game shutout and is the first pitcher in AUX history to do so. She scattered four hits and sat down three batters on her way to MVP 1 and a rocket up the leaderboard.

She’ll lead the Blue team this series as a captain.

Watch List

When Delanie Wisz got a hit in Series Two, it went out of the park every time. Wisz’s three hits in 11 at-bats were all homers. She hit a bomb in three games, racking up 120 stat points as the fifth-highest earner in the series. Talk about bang for your buck. Wisz also picked up Defensive MVP honors for holding down the hot corner.

Pitcher Alyssa Denham is just shy of the top 10 in 11th place and has a propensity for making big jumps on the leaderboard. For example, Denham moved up 19 spots from Series One to Two. She was Mazon’s first pick of the draft and those two teaming up could cause trouble for opposing offenses. Denham leads the league in innings pitched with 23 and holds a 2.44 ERA with two starts and five appearances. She’s a player to keep an eye on; she has gotten sharper in every outing.

Series Three action begins Saturday, June 22, with Team Mazon starting the doubleheader against Team Alo followed by a match-up with Team Nickles.
