Sydney Scales
Biography
Personal: Scales was a three-sport athlete in high school and also played field hockey and basketball. She scored over 1,000 points during her basketball career and was named the 2020 Will McDonough Female Athlete of the Year by the Boston Globe.
2024 Season: Scales was one of 16 players selected in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse College Draft.
College Experience: Scales was a four-year letter winner at Boston College and started 83 of 86 games for the Eagles from 2021-2024. She led the Eagles to a pair of NCAA Division I titles and four appearances in the national championship game. Scales is ranked fifth in school history with 142 ground balls and added 111 caused turnovers. Additionally, she scored a goal and added an assist. In 2024, Scales was recognized as the IWLCA Division I Defender of the Year. She was a three-time IWLCA All-America performer and received First-Team notice as a junior and senior. Scales was also named to the Inside Lacrosse All-America First Team in back-to-back seasons to complete her career. She gained First-Team status as a senior in the two-time USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America honoree. In addition, she received three First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference commendations and was named the 2024 ACC Defender of the Year. Scales started in 20 games as a senior and guided the Eagles to ACC and NCAA championships. She scooped up 39 ground balls while causing 39 turnovers, and she collected five ground balls in a game three times. Scales set a season high with five caused turnovers against Notre Dame in the ACC semifinal victory. She started in 23 games during her junior season, led Boston College, and ranked second in the ACC with 37 caused turnovers. Scales gathered a team-high 41 ground balls to stand fourth in the conference. She scored her first career goal against Duke in the ACC Tournament on April 26, 2023, and matched her career high with five ground balls against Brown. Scales earned a starting assignment in all 22 games during her sophomore campaign, tied for the team lead with 26 caused turnovers, and ranked fourth in the ACC with 46 ground balls. She received an ACC All-Freshman Team commendation during the 2021 season after picking up 16 ground balls with nine caused turnovers while starting 18 of 21 games. Scales recorded her first career point with an assist against Notre Dame in an NCAA quarterfinal victory.
