Katie Detwiler
Biography
Personal: Detwiler received her master’s degree from Loyola Maryland in May 2023 and was named to the women’s lacrosse coaching staff at Saint Joseph’s on August 10, 2023. Her brother, Peter, is a sophomore defensive midfielder on the Marquette University men’s lacrosse team. She has a dachshund named Pickle. Detwiler lists Loyola Maryland assistant women’s lacrosse coach Dana Dobbie as a person who has made a difference in her life. She mentioned that she would be a chef if she was not playing lacrosse and also played basketball in addition to lacrosse as a child. Her hobbies include drawing, painting, traveling, and spending time at the beach. Detwiler also enjoys going to different restaurants to try food and has an Instagram account where she posts reviews of restaurants. She has worn No. 32 since the start of her college career at Loyola.
2023 Season: Detwiler is a talented rookie defender who finished 16th in the league standings with 1,042 leaderboard points. She started in all 12 games, collecting 22 ground balls and causing 14 turnovers. Detwiler earned MVP honors against Team Moreno on August 5 after posting two ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover. She had seven games with 100 or more leaderboard points, including a season-high 187 points against Team Apuzzo on August 12, finishing with three ground balls and a season-high four caused turnovers. Detwiler was also one of 11 players selected in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse College Draft.
International Experience: Detwiler has also been a part of Team USA's training team for the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.
At Loyola Maryland: Detwiler was a five-year letter winner and started in all 85 games from 2019 to 2023. She scored six goals and provided one assist. Additionally, she contributed 197 draw controls, 65 caused turnovers, and 86 ground balls. Detwiler played a crucial role in leading the Greyhounds to four consecutive Patriot League titles. She was nominated for the Tewaaraton Award twice and was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year three times. Detwiler received First-Team All-Patriot League recognition in her final three seasons and was a Second-Team All-Patriot League performer as a freshman. As a graduate student, she was recognized as a Second-Team IWLCA All-American. Detwiler was also honored as an Inside Lacrosse All-American four times, earning First-Team notice as a sophomore and graduate student. She received All-America commendations from USA Lacrosse Magazine in her final two years, being named to the First-Team in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, she received First-Team IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in her junior, senior, and graduate student years. In the 2023 season, Detwiler ranked second on the team with 80 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. She played a key role in helping Loyola rank third in NCAA Division I with an 8.05 goals against average in the 2022 season, with 17 out of 22 opponents being held to under 10 goals in a game. In her junior year, she started in all 15 games and collected 41 draw controls and 20 ground balls.
