Hannah Dorney
Biography
Personal: Dorney's older brother, Ryan, played lacrosse at SUNY Geneseo. She is the daughter of Meaghan and Patrick Dorney, and she lists her parents as the people who have made a difference in her life. Dorney competed in soccer, gymnastics, field hockey, and basketball as a child. She also participated in student government and played the French horn for a couple of years in elementary school. Her hobbies include reading, playing board games and puzzles. Dorney competed as a substitute in a bowling league during her senior year of college and played every position except goalkeeper during her college career.
2023 Season: Dorney completed her rookie season with 769 leaderboard points. She scored one goal with five assists while appearing in all 12 games. Dorney also tallied 16 ground balls and six caused turnovers. She scored her first goal of her professional career with an assist against Team Moreno in the Week One finale, earning a season-high 137 leaderboard points. Dorney also notched an assist in three other games. She collected a season-high three ground balls against Team Colson in the Week Two opener and registered two caused turnovers against Team Read on July 22 and against Team Glynn in the Week Four opener. Dorney posted three games with 100 or more leaderboard points.
International Experience: Dorney was one of 12 players named to the Team USA roster for 2023 World Lacrosse Women’s Super Sixes Event.
At Notre Dame: Dorney played lacrosse for five years. During her time at Notre Dame, she appeared in 80 games and scored 45 goals with 15 assists. She also collected 119 ground balls and caused 73 turnovers. Dorney served as team captain in her final two seasons with the Fighting Irish. As a graduate student, she was named a Second-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer and led Notre Dame to an NCAA quarterfinal appearance. In the 2023 season, she scored 11 goals, including two-goal efforts against Central Michigan and Virginia. Dorney played in all 19 games as a senior, collecting 36 ground balls and leading the team with 28 caused turnovers. She also contributed nine goals and three assists. In 2022, she was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. As a junior, she played in 14 games and had five goals and six assists. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, she played in all seven games, scoring four goals and three assists. Her best offensive season was as a freshman, where she scored 16 goals and had six assists. Dorney had five multi-goal games during her rookie season, including hat tricks against Kent State and Stanford. She was also a teammate of current Athletes Unlimited player Andie Aldave for three years at Notre Dame.
