Emma Trenchard
Biography
Personal: Trenchard majored in psychology at North Carolina. She currently works in talent and business development at Brookfield Asset Management in New York City. Her father, Webb, was the captain of the lacrosse team at Amherst College, and her great-great grandfather, Thomas, was the head football coach at North Carolina for four years. Her mother, Michelle, earned All-America honors while playing lacrosse at Hobart William Smith College. Trenchard has a golden retriever named Tillie and considers North Carolina women's lacrosse coach Jenny Levy as someone who has made a difference in her life. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, visiting new restaurants, walking, doing yoga, and spending time with friends.
2022 Season: Trenchard earned a spot on the inaugural Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse All-Defensive Team. She accumulated 1,031 leaderboard points and had seven games with 100 or more points. Trenchard started in all 12 games, collecting 18 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Her season-high for ground balls in a game was three, which she achieved three times. She also had three caused turnovers against Team Apuzzo in Week Three. Trenchard was one of the 15 athletes selected in the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse College Draft.
International Experience: Trenchard has international experience representing Team USA at the World Lacrosse 2022 Women's World Championship. She was part of the Team USA defensive unit that allowed the tournament-best 39 goals over eight games. In the Championship Bracket opener against Hong Kong, China, she appeared in eight games and registered an assist. Trenchard was also a member of the 2018 United States Women's National Training Team.
At North Carolina: Trenchard was a five-year letter winner and started all 88 career games for the Tar Heels from 2018-2022. She scored one goal with four assists and contributed 104 ground balls, 59 draw controls, and 61 caused turnovers. Trenchard led the Tar Heels to the 2022 NCAA title and five consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championships. She was named the 2022 IWLCA Division I Defender of the Year and was a two-time selection as ACC Defender of the Year in 2019 and 2022. Trenchard was also a member of the 2022 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team and a three-time First-Team All-ACC performer. She received First-Team All-America honors from the IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse, and USA Lacrosse Magazine in her final two seasons at UNC. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Trenchard earned First-Team All-America distinction from Inside Lacrosse. As a sophomore, she was part of the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse All-America First Teams and finished second on the team with 16 caused turnovers. In her freshman year, Trenchard started all 21 games and earned a spot on the All-ACC Tournament Team.
