Kaitlyn Chen
Biography
Personal: Kaitlyn Chen is the daughter of Sandy Shien and Yeh-Ching Chen, and she has one sister named Rebecca. She graduated from Princeton in May 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, and she earned a master’s degree in sport management from UConn. Chen set Flintridge Prep school records for career points (2,009), rebounds (922), and assists (421). She also owns the high school single-game scoring record of 38 points. She was a two-sport athlete in high school who also played volleyball for three years.
Other Professional Experience: Chen was the No. 30 overall selection by the Golden State Valkyries in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She appeared in 24 games as a reserve during her rookie season, contributing 2.0 points and 0.9 rebounds per outing. She scored a season-high 10 points against Chicago on June 27, 2025. She also played a season-high 25 minutes while making 3 of 4 field goal attempts, in addition to a 3-for-5 effort at the free throw line. Chen dished out a season-high five assists at Las Vegas on August 3, 2025, and grabbed a season-high six rebounds against Seattle on June 29, 2025. She also played for USK Praha in the Czech Women’s Basketball League during the 2025-26 season.
At UConn and Princeton: Chen was a four-year letter winner at Princeton before completing her career at UConn during the 2024-25 season. She was a member of the 2025 NCAA Division I Championship team at UConn. Chen is a two-time First-Team All-Ivy League performer at Princeton and a three-time selection as Most Outstanding Player at the Ivy League Championship. She totaled 1,553 career points over 130 games, also dishing out 494 assists while registering 145 steals. As a starter in all 40 games during her lone season at UConn, she averaged 6.9 points per outing. She shot a career-best 51.4 percent from the field, along with converting 84.2 percent of her free throw attempts. Chen authored nine double-digit scoring efforts, including 17-point performances against Villanova on January 22, 2025, and at DePaul on January 29, 2025. She compiled 1,276 points with 313 rebounds at Princeton, where she ranks third on the Tigers’ all-time list with 359 assists in 90 career games. She earned Honorable Mention status on the 2024 WBCA All-America Team after contributing 15.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game while starting all 30 contests. Chen erupted for a career-high 31 points against Villanova on December 11, 2023. As a junior, she was a starter in 29 of 30 games and was recognized as the 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year after logging 16.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest. She contributed 10.5 points and 3.2 assists per game as a sophomore. Chen tallied 30 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field in the Ivy League Tournament Championship against Columbia on March 12, 2022.
