Biography
Personal: Taylor Sandbothe is a member of an athletic family. Her father played basketball at Missouri. Her mother is a member of the Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame after competing on the Tigers’ track and field team. Her mother was also an Olympian. Her brother won an NCAA Division II basketball national championship for Central Missouri. Her younger sister, Elle, played volleyball for Ohio State in 2019 and currently plays professionally in Sweden. Taylor Sandbothe enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and spending time with her dog, Shylo. She lists her college strength coach as a person who has made a difference in her life. Taylor Sandbothe models her game after Foluke Akinradewo. She was involved in soccer and choir as a child growing up. Her proudest accomplishment is getting inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
2022 Season: Taylor Sandbothe appeared in 40 sets over 14 matches during her second Athletes Unlimited campaign. She accumulated 2,098 leaderboard points with four matches of 200 or more points. Taylor Sandbothe ranked fourth in the league with 22 blocks and registered multiple blocks in seven outings. She earned eight service aces to rank 10th in the league. Taylor Sandbothe posted a pair of aces against Team Drews on March 25 and against Team Valentin-Anderson on April 6. She matched her career high with four blocks in the Week Five opener against Team Drews, earning MVP 2 honors with a career-high 320 leaderboard points. Taylor Sandbothe recorded her first career double-digit kill performance in the Week Three finale with 10 kills. She also hit .667 (10-0-15) with four digs and two blocks. Taylor Sandbothe hit .533 with eight kills against Team Stivrins on March 26, also chipping in two blocks while finishing the match with 239 leaderboard points. She opened the season with back-to-back six-kill performances against Team McClendon and Team Lowe, also registering a block in each contest. Taylor Sandbothe fashioned 25 of her 41 digs in her final five matches, including eight digs in the Week Five opener against Team Drews.
2021 Season: Taylor Sandbothe appeared in all 45 sets during the inaugural season. She ranked No. 21 on the leaderboard with 2,315 points. Taylor Sandbothe tied for second in Athletes Unlimited with 14 service aces and was third in the league with 41 blocks. She posted a season-high nine kills in the season opener against Team Cruz and the season finale against Team Larson. Taylor Sandbothe recorded a season-high six digs with five kills in the Week Three opener against Team Larson. She earned a season-high 268 leaderboard points on March 21 against Team Lowe after registering four blocks with four kills and three digs.
Other Professional Experience: Taylor Sandbothe spent the 2025 season with Madison in LOVB. She ranked third in the league with 15 service aces. Taylor Sandbothe signed to play with San Diego Mojo of Major League Volleyball for the 2026 season. She played in Puerto Rico from 2020-23. Taylor Sandbothe also competed in the Asian Games and won first place with Supreme Chonburi-E. Tech in Thailand. She played in the Champions League for Cannes in France. Taylor Sandbothe spent one season with FC Porto in the Portuguese league. She competed for two seasons in Peru.
At Ohio State: Taylor Sandbothe was a four-year letter winner for the Buckeyes who earned AVCA All-America commendations three times. She was named First-Team All-America as a junior. Taylor Sandbothe received First-Team AVCA All-Region notice in each of her final three seasons. She was a three-time All-Big Ten selection, including First Team recognition in 2015 and 2016. Taylor Sandbothe ranks fifth on the Buckeyes’ career list with 1,498 kills. She stands eighth in OSU history with 3,348 career attack attempts. Taylor Sandbothe authored a .304 career hitting percentage, which rates seventh on the Buckeyes’ ledger. She fashioned 109 career solo blocks, which are the second-most by a Buckeye. Taylor Sandbothe owns the Ohio State career record with 455 block assists and 564 total blocks. She tallied 1,914.5 career points to finish fourth in school history. Taylor Sandbothe led Ohio State in blocks all four years. She registered 506 kills during her junior season. Taylor Sandbothe posted the fifth-highest hitting percentage in program history with a .366 mark as a sophomore in 2015. She was named AVCA National Player of the Week on October 4, 2016.
