It was a pendulum of a game on Friday evening between Team Read and Team Ohlmiller as the two teams battled neck-and-neck through four quarters. Team Ohlmiller squeaked out the narrow victory 9-8.

Both teams received hat tricks from one of their players – Marie McCool (Team Read) and Sam Apuzzo (Team Ohlmiller) each scored their second of the season.

Here’s a recap of the action from this close matchup:

McCool got things started early for Team Read, putting them on the board just over a minute into the game. Apuzzo answered back for Team Ohlmiller, but McCool then nabbed her second goal of the quarter to put Team Read back on top, 2-1.

With 20 win points on the line for the quarter, Nicole Levy tied things up, faking a scoring a rocket in the top right corner with a minute to play. Neither team was able to score again, rolling the points over to the second quarter.

Team Read and Team Ohlmiller played an even defensive game to begin the second quarter, but a free position shot for captain Kylie Ohlmiller put her team in front midway through.

Team Read again answered, and end its own 11 minute drought, this time with a goal from Alyssa Parrella who shot a quick goal off the pass from Lindsey Ronbeck. Cortney Fortunato tacked on another eight seconds later off the draw.

Amanda Johansen, who made her Athletes Unlimited debut after being a facilitator Weeks 1 and 2 as she made her way back from an injury, tied the quarter up with 10 seconds remaining, forcing another rollover of points.

60 points on the line and another quarter to play, the teams hit the field for the third quarter and McCool put another goal in the back of the net to secure the hat trick.

The second free position shot of the game for Team Ohlmiller tied things up once again as Lindsey McKone scored low and away. Apuzzo gave Team Ohlmiller the lead on the pass from Taryn VanThof and quickly added another goal to have a hat trick of her own and make it 7-5.

As was the case all night, the back and forth game continued. Ronbeck brought Team Read within one with under two minutes in the quarter, but they were unable to tie things up and Team Ohlmiller earned 60 win points for winning the quarter.

But Team Read had an answer. Katrina Dowd scored a goal off the rebound from an initial save by Angie Benson.

Levy scored her second goal of the game and Ohlmiller added a behind-the-back goal to make it 9-7 Team Ohlmiller.

Mollie Stevens kept things interesting heading into the last minute of the game, scoring for Team Read as they trailed by one, but they were unable to score again, falling 9-8 to Team Ohlmiller.

Apuzzo was named MVP 1 (+45) and finished the night with 238 points, which included 68 stat points. In her first game of the season, Johansen was named MVP 2 (+30) for 141 points overall. Haley Warden, who had five draw controls and a caused turnover, earned MVP 3 honors (+15) and tallied 156 points.
