Shayna Pirreca scores game-winning 2-pointer in thrilling win against Team Waters

In the battle of the goalies on Friday evening, Shayna Pirreca fired the game-winning goal for two points for the 10-9 victory for Team Glynn over Team Waters. Goalkeeper and captain Caylee Waters made 12 saves despite the loss and was named MVP 3 (+15) for 106 points.

Nicole Levy got Team Waters on the board with a shot from deep for two points. Alex Aust extended the lead to 3-0 on a free position goal. Kayla Treanor answered for Team Glynn with a point of her own. Kenzie Kent tallied another point for Team Waters to make it 4-1 and despite a couple of shots off the post to end the first quarter, Team Glynn was unable to get any other goals on the board.

Team Glynn’s man-to-man defense in the second quarter helped to quiet the sticks of Team Waters. Alyssa Parrella cut Team Waters’ lead to one as she scored her first two goals of the game. Treanor tied things up at 4, but Amanda Johansen ended the drought for Team Waters with a goal to put her team back ahead heading to halftime, 5-4.

Team Glynn opened the second half with goals from Taylor Hensh and Cortney Fortunato to earn its first lead of the night 6-5. Katie O’Donnell continued the run with another goal. Taryn VanThof put another goal on the board for Team Waters to make it 7-6 heading to the fourth quarter, but Team Glynn captured the 20 win points outscoring Team Waters 3-1 in that quarter.

In the fourth quarter, a shot by Parrella was deflected by Fortunato to put another point on the board for Team Glynn, but goals by Haley Warden and Johansen, which was for two points, gave Team Waters its first lead since the second quarter.

Pirreca fired a 2-point goal of her own to give Team Glynn back the lead, 10-9. Team Glynn held on for the victory and 105 win points overall. Team Waters earned 20 win points for its first quarter victory.

Treanor was named MVP 1 (+45) for her efforts on the evening. She scored two goals, won seven draw controls, picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover for 184 points overall. Kristen Carr, who was a key player on defense for Team Glynn, received MVP 2 (+30) honors. She picked up six ground balls and caused one turnover for 159 points.
