Garcia, Nickles re-sign with AU Softball

A pair of UCLA Bruins with Olympic silver medals are inked for 2023 with Athletes Unlimited Softball. Pitcher Rachel Garcia and outfielder Bubba Nickles signed for the upcoming championship season in July; Garcia is also signed to compete in AUX.

Rachel Garcia is a top 10 finisher in her two seasons competing with the league so far. In her league debut at AUX, she medaled for second place on the final leaderboard. Garcia led the league with six MVP honors, displaying her prowess to impact the game on both sides of the ball. She authored a .333 batting average with nine hits, including a league-high three home runs. In the circle, she had recorded 25 strikeouts across her 27 innings.

Garcia’s success carried over into championship season where she finished eighth overall. She put together the highest single-week leaderboard point total of the 2022 season. With seven starts, Garcia set an AU record of three saves and tallied three complete games with one solo shutout.

Bubba Nickles is an outfielder and member of the 2022 All-Defensive Team. Her season is highlighted by two plays that were featured on SportsCenter Top 10. Offensively, Nickles posted a .333 batting average in her 15 games started. Nickles had three consecutive outings with a home run, spanning from July 30-Aug. 5.

Nickles’ AU debut came in 2021; she was a late addition to the league after signing to replace an injured athlete. In her first game as a pro and on the first pitch, she went yard for a leadoff home run. She is currently competing with the Toyota Red Terriers in the Japan Diamond Softball League.
