Recap: Team North Takes Down Team Kennedy in Shootout Thriller, 12-11
With the victory, Team North moves to 2-0 in Week Four of the 2024 AU Pro Lacrosse season, while Team Kennedy drops to 0-2 with both losses needing extra time.
Goalkeeper Kady Glynn made a career-high 15 saves, including two in the overtime period and one in the shootout, to receive MVP 1 honors and a game-high 170 leaderboard points in Team North’s victory.
Midfielder and team captain Ally Kennedy grabbed MVP 2 laurels with 105 leaderboard points. She picked up six ground balls with four draw controls and three caused turnovers, while teammate rookie midfielder Ellie Masera set a new career high with five goals and six points after also adding an assist. Masera collected 116 leaderboard points in the loss.
For Team North, attackers Andie Aldave, Kenzie Kent, and Charlotte North each scored three goals, including the game-tying goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation by North to send the game to overtime.
Defensively, defender Courtney Taylor caused four turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
Attacker Izzy Scane scored four times and registered an assist in Team Kennedy’s loss. Fellow newcomers Maggi Hall and Kailyn Hart each scored once as all 11 goals by Team Kennedy were scored by league rookies.
Attacker Livy Rosenzweig set a new single-game league record with 14 draw controls and added one assist for Team Kennedy in the defeat.
KEY MOMENT
With Team North leading 7-6 at halftime, Team Kennedy scored the first three goals of the second half to take an 8-7 advantage. Later in the half, Masera tied the game in the beginning of the fourth quarter to spawn a three-goal run to once again give Team Kennedy the lead late. North scored with just 13 seconds left to tie the game and send it to overtime. Glynn stopped two shots in the overtime frame to force the game to a shootout where Kent was the lone shooter to find the back of the cage to give Team North the 13-12 victory.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
North retakes the No. 1 spot on the leaderboard with 1,577 points following her team’s victory, while attacker Sam Apuzzo moves to second. Kennedy moved up one spot into third with 1,363 points in the standings and Glynn jumped into fourth with 1,269 points.
