Recap: Team Lorenz Completes Week Four Sweep by Downing Team Palacios, 6-1

The victory moved Team Lorenz’s record to 3-0, while Team Palacios saw an end to its two-game win streak and finished Week Four with a 2-1 mark.

Lorenz, who matched her season high with 220 leaderboard points, claimed MVP 1 status after piloting her team to the victory. The former Florida product slugged a two-run home run in the second inning before adding an RBI single in the sixth inning for her fifth multi-hit game of the season.

Pitcher Kathryn Sandercock garnered MVP 2 distinction after earning her first win in the circle this season. Sandercock allowed one run on two hits over 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, securing 188 leaderboard points in the victory.

Pitcher Georgina Corrick completed the Game MVP sweep after claiming MVP 3 recognition. Corrick scattered two hits over 3.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts to collect 166 leaderboard points.

Outfielder Victoria Hayward added two hits in the victory for Team Lorenz, which outscored its opponents by a 16-1 margin in the three games this week.

Four different players registered a hit in the loss for Team Palacios, including middle infielder Anissa Urtez, who ended Team Lorenz’s shutout bid with a single in the seventh inning.

Mariah Mazon dropped to 0-4 in the circle after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on three hits in 4.0 innings with a strikeout.

KEY MOMENT

Team Lorenz, which never trailed in the contest, sprinted to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Hayward got the scoring started with an RBI double to right field before Lorenz followed with her third home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Corrick’s relief effort vaulted into second place on the leaderboard with 1,340 points, putting her into a captain’s role for the first time in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball career. She trails Lorenz by 230 points entering the final week. Lorenz and Corrick will be joined by pitchers Aleshia Ocasio and Lexi Kilfoyl as captains for the final week of the season.

GAME NOTES

• Teams are now 3-for-22 in captain’s challenges through 24 games this season after each team asked for a video review in Sunday’s Week Four finale.

• Team Palacios initiated a captain’s challenge to determine whether outfielder McKenzie Clark left early on a stolen base attempt in the second inning … The challenge was unsuccessful after the call was upheld.

• Team Lorenz requested a captain’s challenge in the top of the fourth inning to determine whether outfielder Aliyah Andrews committed a runner’s lane violation … The challenge was successful after the call was reversed and Andrews was called out.

• Team Lorenz finished Week Four with 350 win points, establishing a new Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball record … The squad earned the win points for 20-of-21 innings, surpassing the previous record of 19 innings, which occurred three times.

• Urtez’s RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning prevented Team Lorenz from becoming the first team in AU Pro Softball history to record three consecutive shutouts … Team Lorenz did not concede a run in its first 20.2 innings during Week Four prior to the Urtez single.

• Team Lorenz also established a new AU Pro Softball record by giving up one run in its three games … The previous single-week standard was three runs, which was set by Team Alexander in Week Four last season.

• Corrick has tallied 100 or more leaderboard points in five of her last six outings … In addition, she has won her last eight outings after posting a 3-0 mark with Team Lorenz in Week Four.

• Catcher Sashel Palacios had her seven-game win streak snapped with Sunday’s setback … It also marked her first loss as a captain in six tries.

• Corner infielder Sam Fischer and pitcher Valerie Cagle had their personal five-game win streaks halted in Team Palacios’ loss on Sunday.

• Middle infielder Aubrey Leach ran her hitting streak to nine consecutive games after posting an infield single with one out in the sixth inning.
