Recap: Team Lorenz Completes Week Four Sweep by Downing Team Palacios, 6-1
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Outfielder Amanda Lorenz posted two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs as Team Lorenz secured a three-game sweep of its Week Four schedule with a 6-1 victory over Team Palacios to complete Sunday’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
The victory moved Team Lorenz’s record to 3-0, while Team Palacios saw an end to its two-game win streak and finished Week Four with a 2-1 mark.
Lorenz, who matched her season high with 220 leaderboard points, claimed MVP 1 status after piloting her team to the victory. The former Florida product slugged a two-run home run in the second inning before adding an RBI single in the sixth inning for her fifth multi-hit game of the season.
Pitcher Kathryn Sandercock garnered MVP 2 distinction after earning her first win in the circle this season. Sandercock allowed one run on two hits over 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, securing 188 leaderboard points in the victory.
Pitcher Georgina Corrick completed the Game MVP sweep after claiming MVP 3 recognition. Corrick scattered two hits over 3.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts to collect 166 leaderboard points.
Outfielder Victoria Hayward added two hits in the victory for Team Lorenz, which outscored its opponents by a 16-1 margin in the three games this week.
Four different players registered a hit in the loss for Team Palacios, including middle infielder Anissa Urtez, who ended Team Lorenz’s shutout bid with a single in the seventh inning.
Mariah Mazon dropped to 0-4 in the circle after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on three hits in 4.0 innings with a strikeout.
KEY MOMENT
Team Lorenz, which never trailed in the contest, sprinted to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Hayward got the scoring started with an RBI double to right field before Lorenz followed with her third home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Corrick’s relief effort vaulted into second place on the leaderboard with 1,340 points, putting her into a captain’s role for the first time in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball career. She trails Lorenz by 230 points entering the final week. Lorenz and Corrick will be joined by pitchers Aleshia Ocasio and Lexi Kilfoyl as captains for the final week of the season.
