SPARKS, Md. — After flying under the radar for the first half of the 2023 Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse season, attacker Kylie Ohlmiller has announced her presence with authority in the last five outings, including Thursday’s contest at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
Ohlmiller matched the league’s single-game goals record with six tallies, including four in the opening 20 minutes, as Team Moreno cruised to a 13-7 victory over Team Glynn to complete the opening night of Week Four.
The former Stony Brook standout, who also added an assist in the victory, closed the night with a career-high 234 leaderboard points after securing MVP 1 distinction.
Attacker Izzy McMahon contributed a three-goal performance for Team Moreno, including a pair of markers in the first half, to claim MVP 2 recognition and 183 leaderboard points. Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno chipped in 12 saves, including six in each half, as Team Moreno limited Team Glynn to two or fewer goals in each quarter to complete the win points sweep.
Rookie attacker Livy Rosenzweig fashioned the first hat trick of her professional career with four goals in the loss for Team Glynn in addition to a game-high seven draw controls. Attacker Sam Geiersbach added a pair of goals in the setback.
Ohlmiller scored three of her six goals during a six-goal outburst by Team Moreno in the second quarter, allowing the squad to pull away for a 10-4 lead at the break. Two of those goals came during a five-goal run that spanned seven minutes during the frame.
Ohlmiller’s 234-point explosion on Thursday night allowed her to rise 13 spots on the leaderboard, while Moreno climbed back into the top position with a 37-point advantage over attacker Sam Apuzzo entering Saturday’s action.
Team Moreno and Team Glynn combined to register five assists in Thursday’s second game, elevating the league’s season total to 126 assists through 20 games … Aspiration is committed to planting 10 trees for every assist this season as part of its ‘Aspiration Assists’ initiative.
Team Glynn outshot Team Moreno by a 25-24 margin, but Team Moreno held a 13-11 edge in draw controls.
Team Glynn registered just three saves in its loss against Team Moreno on Thursday night, equaling the fewest saves by a team in a game this season … Team Apuzzo made just three stops against Team Moreno on July 29, 2023.
Ohlmiller becomes the third player in Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse history to record a six-goal game, joining attackers Charlotte North and Nicole Levy … North registered the first-ever six-goal performance on August 14, 2022, against Team Johansen, while Levy notched her record-tying effort on July 29, 2023, against Team Apuzzo.
Ohlmiller also secured her third career outing with five or more goals, reclaiming the league record … Ohlmiller and North are the only players in the league’s three-year history with multiple five-goal contests.
Ohlmiller also fashioned the first game of her Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse career with 200 or more leaderboard points … She is the 17th player in league history with 200 points in a single game.
Moreno extended her league record by accruing 10 or more saves in a game for the 17th time in her career.
McMahon posted the fifth hat trick of her Athletes Unlimited career, including her third this season.
