Recap: Strong Second Half Leads Team Glynn over Team Apuzzo, 13-12

Team Glynn starts Week One with a 1-0 record, while Team Apuzzo falls to 0-1.

Hall’s four goals, including a two-point marker late in the contest, helped her claim MVP 1 honors and 204 leaderboard points in her first game in an AU Pro Lacrosse jersey. The former Florida standout also added an assist and a ground ball.

Midfielder Ally Mastroianni claimed MVP 2 laurels and collected 195 leaderboard points as she scored a pair of goals, including a two-point strike, with an assist and a game-high eight draw controls.

Team captain Kady Glynn rounded out the MVP sweep for her squad as the netminder earned MVP 3 honors following a 13-save performance with a caused turnover and a ground ball.

Midfielders Amy Moreau and Katie O’Donnell added two-goal performances for Team Glynn, which outscored Team Apuzzo by a 7-3 count after the intermission.

Team Apuzzo received a four-goal effort from attacker Charlotte North and a three-goal outing from captain Sam Apuzzo. Three other players scored a goal in the loss for Team Apuzzo.

Goalkeeper Caylee Waters stopped a pair of shots for Team Apuzzo in the first half before rookie Emily Sterling made five saves in the second half.

KEY MOMENT

Hall netted a two-point goal with 8:08 remaining in the final frame to give Team Glynn an 11-10 advantage. Team Apuzzo reclaimed the advantage with back-to-back markers from Kailyn Hart and North before a pair of scores from Hall and O’Donnell gave Team Glynn the one-point victory.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Hall claimed 204 leaderboard points to take the top spot in the standings after the season’s first contest. Mastroianni sits in second place with 195 points, while Glynn tallied 163 points to stand third in the league standings.

• Teams are now 1-for-2 in captain’s challenges this season after each squad requested a review in the season opener on Thursday night.

• Team Glynn initiated a captain’s challenge on a goal by Hall with 8:08 left in the fourth quarter, which was initially ruled a one-point score … The call on the field was overturned and declared a two-point marker.

• Team Apuzzo challenged a goal by Hall with 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter … The call on the field was confirmed and the challenge was unsuccessful.

• Apuzzo registered the 18th hat trick of her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career after scoring three goals in the first half.

• North tallied her 14th career Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse hat trick after finishing with a game-high four goals … She also notched four or more goals for the sixth time in her three-year AU Pro Lacrosse career, the most of any player in league history.

• Glynn notched 10 or more saves for the 13th time in her career, which stands second in league history … The former Loyola Maryland netminder matched her career high with 13 saves in the win.

• Mastroianni rocketed the fourth two-point goal of her AU Pro Lacrosse career past Sterling in the third quarter, moving her into a tie for seventh place on the league’s all-time chart.

• Apuzzo lost for just the sixth time as a captain in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career, dropping her career record to 19-6 … It marked just her third loss in the last 11 outings as a team captain.
